Now and then you run across a piece of great Alaskan history, here is a Bear Trap found in the southern Native Village of Akhiok Ak, on Kodiak Island. It's a small fishing town on the south end of the island. Right at the mouth of Dead Man's Bay.
I have been there many times flying in and out bear, goat and deer hunting. This trap was found in Olga Bay. It's was made about 1883, hand forged, a great piece of Kodiak History. Many folks I know and that have seen it have said it was Russian made, this was the same time Russians raped Alaska for their furs for 50 years prior to the turn of the century. Note the hand forged teeth and the makers mark. They where added by the trap maker to show his skills and pride in his craft. As a lover of this State and the Alaskan lifestyle, even I have to say to myself sometimes. Just wow! Scott. ..the proud care taker.
Here's an updated photo of it sitting on My Alaskan Bush wheels, there 38.5 in tall. Thus, that a big trap.
