17 hunters return?

I noticed tonight on Davidson's website they are showin knr 717h in stock with no pics. That is a 17 hmr hunter correct? I thought they were out of production.I know they are not listed on ruger's website. wondering if this is a limited run or are they back for good. once again wondering if this is something I need my dealer to "pounce" on!

Just another shipment of "clean-up" guns made from parts and/or ones that were made and just sitting at Ruger. Williams got a bunch of these in a while back along with a list of discontinued models.

I see, how often does something like this take place? seems like they must peter out at some point. The msrp listed looks reasonable compared to the convertible hunter prices.

are "clean-up guns" of the same quality as all others?

They're simply ones made from parts they have sitting that won't be used. Picture it...they discontinue a model like the .17 Hunter and then find they have a bunch of stock for the bbls, and cylinders made...rather than send it back to the furnace, use 'em. Make a small run to use them up and ship 'em. There's not really any schedule for when these things happen. This past yr, many models discontinued an dissembled YEARS ago finally shipped. It just happens. In some cases one distributor will buy a large lot of such 'clean-up" models.
I really don't see how or why they'd make them of any lesser quality than if they were a regular production run.

If I guy grabbed one up what's the odds he could find a mach 2 cylinder to have fitted to it?

You won't find a Ruger cylinder. But there are aftermarket cylinders available. But they are made in blued only.

I have one of the blued cylinders from Brownells fitted to my hunter. It actually looks good against the stainless.

Yep, my dealer ordered 2 of these today ( 1 for me) and that left 7 in Davidsons' inventory. Dealer's price was $419.
