This morning I stained the birch stock that came on my 10/22 purchased a few days ago. I've built it as my version of a replica of an M-1 Carbine using an E A Brown Co. hand guard which I modified to fit the refinished 10/22 stock. Additionally, I used a modified M-1 rifle rear sight adaptor base avail from SARCO and on Ebay to mount a late one on the gun. If you do this, be aware that the rear standard scope mounting mounting screw head will interfere with the sight fitting into the base, as it will be too high to allow the sight to seat in the adaptor. I solved the problem by using a standard headed screw on the front hole and at the rear hole the Ruger headless screw/stud from the receiver screwed in just enough to remain slightly in the base. That gives me stability for the present until I find a better solution. In addition to the EABCO hand-guard's one screw mounting hole, I epoxied a small rectangle of beer can to extend under the barrel clamp. E A Browns stock and hand-guard have a similar, but superior securing clamp. I'll try attaching a photo of the carbine before staining. MY QUESTION IS, I dislike Ruger's M-1 Carbine for several reasons mostly the rear sight mess. I would like to see Ruger do an M-1 Rifle sans the stupid looking rail they put on the carbine rep. Anybody else.
