10/22 carbine edition

I just looked at a 10/22 at my LGS and sort of fell in love with it. I have always liked the M1 30 carbine look and feel. This one I believe has an aftermarket stock even though the LGS thinks not. He did not have the box so I don’t have reference to the gun as shipped. On Ruger serial number look up, it just says the model and the picture of one of several configurations and it did not match this configuration. Below are photos so you can see and tell me what you think. I would have bought it if it had the box but without it, I set it aside for maybe at a later visit.

I have one of the Ruger manufactured M-1 carbine models and it does not look like that. The catalog number is 10/22-M1C-15 and the serial number range starts with 0009. Mine has a receiver sight mounted on the rear of a sight rail mounted to the top of the receiver. There is not a rear sight dove tail on the barrel and if there was it would be covered up with the hand guard. The 15 indicates a 15 round magazine that came with the rifle.

Aftermarket stock. Your gun store should use Ruger’s s/n search on line.

Left the factory as a standard carbine in 2013, Model 01103.

Nice $250 shooter to me.

I’d put that $339 towards a real 1940s M1 Carbine!

But I guess that price isn’t TOO bad …. Think you can get a brand new 10/22 carbine for that kinda money though. Somebody will fall in love with the aftermarket stock and buy it. Wonder if it was one of these:

I think some places sold the stock alone in the $70 range.

This is the Ruger Talo m1, I milled down the picatinny rail for a cleaner look. Ended up with three of them. Stock is walnut.

Ruger definitely blew it when they went with the Picatinny rail.

The Picatinny rail doesn’t exactly scream “WWII…” 😂

Yes they did!

I feel the same about Ruger’s Marlin 1895 45-70 they put out.

That's the one I wish I had seen when they came out. Limited LGS presence in my area that gets any Ruger attention unless I hear about it and get in the order que in time.

Moparclan, how did you refinish the receiver after you milled the rail?

Definite aftermarket stock, most likely from Sarco. Your rear sight looks interesting, like an original M1 carbine's.

I built one of these up last year with the EB Allen carbine sights. I love the thing, and the trigger pull/weight almost perfectly match my real 1943 Inland.
