Ok, a year or two ago, I got a #1 in .30-06 at a good price since the stock had been cut down 3/4" or so. Not bad as it still fit. Bought it as a host for a rechambering to .300 H&H. Now that this chambering is to become a factory reality in a cataloged model, I'm wondering what exactly can be done with these. Is there others besides SSK doing different things to these? Never looked past my original plan.

Any round based on a long action, that is big or bigger than a .300 can be rebored an rechmbered on your rifle. that incudes .35 Whelen, .338 Federal, .338-06, 9.3x62, etc.... Magnums will require a magnum extractor but that is no big deal.

Add a serious recoil pad and you wil get back a lot of the 3/4" too.

Whatever it becomes, it'll likely be in a classic chambering. Thought about .38-55 but also thought go something along the lines of .30-30 or .35 Rem. Have to wait, do some net surfing and see what others have done for ideas.

38-55 is good, but I don't think it can be done in a 30-06 barrel ('06 is larger just ahead of the rim?). How about some other "classics" - 38-56WCF, 33 Win., 348 Win.?

I'd obviously have to re-barrel in some cases. This got me thinking...why not simply send it to Newport and have the factory rebarrel it? I know they won't do anything that'll result in a non-cataloged configuration so that limits me but I can proberly be content with one of their standard chamberings. Guess it's worth a call. :)

Any idea of what this rifle will sell for? It is listed in the 2010 catalog, and I sure want one.

Thanks!

Same as any other #1 will. It's not a special distributor run this time.
