Got a 1961 Blackhawk flat top in .44 off GB. It was advertised as a hunter. It appears to have a no-drill mount (Weaver&Weaver Rings) with a Bushnell pistol scope. I hope I am right on this or I will be very mad at myself.
My intentions are to remove scope and replace rear sight.
-does this take the "Micro" marked rear sight?

This would put it back into its original configuration.

I know some prefer wood grips, and I like them as well but are the black/plastic/rubber grips original to '61 Rugers? I would really like to get a set of the older black ones.

This is my first flat top and looking forward to getting to handle it. Likely will not be here until late next week.

Thanks for your help I will post pics when I get it.

Congrats! What's the barrel length?

When you say advertised as a hunter I assume you mean that it was hunted with in the field?
Ruger's "Hunter" models didn't arrive until they were New Models.

EDIT to add: Yes, I think wood grips are correct along with Micro on the rear site.

Thanks Hitman-
6 1/2 Barrel and pictures show in great shape. I did not think he had it correct. So as long as there are no drill holes I got a pretty good deal.

Why not put a WTB (want to buy) ad here in our Classifieds section.... I've gotten every thing I needed over the years (even a pair of correct, walnut grip panels for my .44 Flattop).... keep in mind your grip frame and correct panels should be XR3 (not XR3-RED).
Nice grab...

Oh I watch here as well. I have learned a lot about Rugers, thanks to this site. It has also cost a few bucks. Besides I was born '53.

Wood grips will be the correct ones,, with the recessed black eagle. That will make it original. But you can put a set of the original early black butaphane (plastic) grips on it if you wish. They are the original XR3 shape.
And yes,, the rounded nose,, Micro marked rear sight is the correct type.
