Air quality today - how do we sue Canada .....

Canada has ruined our/my quality of life and liberty... they have stomped on our Constitutional Rights 😠

it's only 3 pm but seems like 7:30 pm thanks to all the smoke drifting over from Canada

I just washed the vehicles yesterday, but you'd never know it with all the soot on them today

anyone with breathing issues doesn't dare step outside

they may be getting as bad as California

I’ve been wondering why are there so many fires in Canada for the last few years? How do they get started? Has there been an extended drought? It just occurred to me today when I saw a map of the many fires.
 
The smoke is so bad that it has grounded medical emergency helicopters. The sky here today is a reddish yellow and everything smells like smoke. My wife is using oxygen in the house and I am not doing anything outside.

obviously, the winds must have shifted because it was supposed to be worse today but is actually a bit better..... hope your wife doesn't suffer from it too much 🙏

She is getting through it. Fortunately we have an oxygen concentrator in the house and she has a portable one if she goes out. She isn't on oxygen full time but she needs it with the smoke
 
Here in the Havre de Grace MD area the sun is shining through a 'skud layer'. The sky is gray. I can't smell (since COVID) so I can't say what if any stench is associated with the skud.
 
We’ll be before we all go Sue Canada you might want to check out how much smoke has drifted into Canada from N CA, Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Montana. I’ve been out there over the years and this is an annual occurrence.
But smoke follows wind patterns and somehow can’t tell where the Border is located. But for sure I’ve watched these fires give Southern Canada smoke they never ordered!
 
When Yellowstone burned down the national park service found out what the forest service figured out in the 1980s. Forests need to burn in small batches every year. Now they understand that the fuel load on the forest floor increases every year due to dead trees ,pine needles etc. (all covered with sticky pine sap!) If you keep suppressing every little fire eventually Yellowstone will ignite! And it did. Scary when it all happens at once. The only other way to do it is selective logging but you still have to burn the slash piles. And some pine cones need the heat of a forest fire to open.

Be careful. Oxygen concentrators a great, but if the air is highly polluted they can fail. Hopefully you have a backup oxygen cylinder.
 
So bad here, work sent me home with pay.

Worked in the -40 degree winter and the heat of the summer and never got sent home.

They must be concerned about law suits

We have 3 cylinders, 2 portable concentrators and a home concentrator
Also a 10kw Generac natural gas generator with the concentrator outlet on a generator circuit

Very strange this morning here in north central Illinois. The sky is hazy and you can smell the smoke, but the most eerie thing is the quietness. No birds to speak of, and the normal sounds of nearby traffic is not happening. 9:20 am on a Friday normally would have at least some lawn mower sounds, leaf blowers, etc. but today there is only silence. I find that even indoors I am wheezing a bit so I think I should not go outside at all.
 
I have zero affinity for Canada or Canadians.
That said, I still cannot imagine blaming Canada for smoke run amuck any more than I could blame the state of washington (small case on purpose) for the ash that escaped Mt. St. Helens and coated the Pacific Northwest, including Canada.
 
The tree huggers just WILL NOT accept the concept of controlled burns to mitigate huge forest fires. Soooo - Mother Nature will say - "Ok, not getting any help from the humans so it's time to clear this SMALL part of the Earth to let it reprosper for the future." Huge fire in Canada, US, wherever, that's small compared to all of Earth and it's been happening for how long?
 
Here in Texas we get smoke from the Cental America “slash & burn” farmers.
And we’re currently plagued with massive clouds of dust blowing over from the Sahara Desert.
Not nearly as bad as what y’all are describing though.

How did the Palisades burn down last year?

Think of Canada as a giant California, with all the corruption and ineptitude but on a much larger scale. I seem to remember that before Castro's son took power they could more or less manage their own forests.

Who was it that posted the thread on "enshittification" a couple of months ago? That one word describes so much about the modern world.

At least Canada's smoke seems to be staying north of Missouri this year.
 
I could barely see the sun through the smoke this evening, just a dark red ball in the sky. The light reminded me of an eclipse. It does smell a bit but we’re supposed to get some storms tomorrow that should clear it out.
