Hi all; My friend brought his Grandfathers Bearcat over to today. I had got him a vintage set of stags from Rugerguy and he wanted me to see it with the grips on. They fit very well; I believe they may be almost as early as the gun and yes, He put away the originals in a safe place. Take a close look at the Serial, Purchased new by his Grandfather I make this out to be the 2002nd Bearcat from probably the first year? No, it had never been converted and no, it's not for sale; being kept in the family.

That Bearcat,, is commonly called an "Alphabet Bearcat." Made in 1958. It's a NICE one and the stags look very good!

Bearcats began with the serial number 1 and went to 999. Then the letters of the alphabet were used as part of the serial number.

A letter from Ruger would give a few more details,, such as the month & year of shipment, and where it was shipped to.
As for it's actual production number,, if using the serials,, and assuming they assembled them all in consecutive order,, then you may be correct. But often,, assembly was not in exact serial number sequence.

Dan; you have held that one. John brought it to the OGCA about 17 years or so ago and you replaced a small part or two for him. I believe it was something about the base pin latch.

And yes; John's a pretty good sized fellow.
