Looking to purchase Rugers bearing serial number 13…Some of you know these to be the number once assigned to Jim Carmichael…I believe he started thinning out his collection? I know they surface occasionally…I've seen #13 Winchesters with either LOAs or his actual initials followed by that serial number…
In my case I'm interested in Rugers only.
I'm pretty new to this forum, but I think I can be messaged via my username?
Anyway, any leads on Carmichael guns would be greatly appreciated!

I actually just started! I found (and purchased) an NRA Signature standard auto…It's NIB, 3 mags, lock, all docs, etc. The cardboard shipping sleeve has the large FedEx label, addressed to Jim Carmichael obviously shipped from Ruger…
I began looking around other forums and auctions. In one or two older forums I found threads discussing Jim's relationship with Ruger, comments on his articles and mention of how he had been "assigned" #13.
I've found a couple of Winchester'70s that were given to or purchased by Jim with #13…big bucks! I recently found a pair of Kimber .22 rifles, that have been fitted with absolutely beautiful walnut stocks, made for Jim bearing number 13…also crazy $…I think $3999 for the pair. They don't do anything for me.
I heard from another grapevine that supposedly there are 55 Rugers out there with the #13 SN made for Jim Carmichael. I have no way of confirming that BTW.
I also read somewhere that the whole "special number program" (or whatever it's called!) stopped fairly early into the new millennium. I know that there's a Ruger PC Charger #13 out there, so the SN program went at least that long…
Anyway…Like a lot of guys on this forum, I grew up reading Jim's articles (and others) in Outdoor Life. And my father had two books that were required reading for me… "The Complete Book of Rifles and Shotguns" by Jack O'Connor, and the "The Modern Rifle" by Jim Carmichael.

Now for the $10,000 question…is your pistol for sale??

I'll snap a couple of pics of my gun…

Thanks!

Congrats on the NRA Signature auto pistol, nice score! :) I looked at that one for a longtime. Nice way to start a collection.

Curious, is Carmichel spelled Carmichael or Carmichel on your mailer. It should be Carmichel as that is how it is on his books, articles and other items. His name has got to be the most misspelled name of any public figure (even Ruger gets it wrong once in awhile).

Mine not for sale at this time, I'll let you know if/when it is. You do the same. ;)

Here's a pkg with his name and FFL #.

Okay boys…as I said I'm very new to this forum…I'm going to attempt to post a couple of photos…If they don't come out right, I'll blaming it on my "smart phone!" Lol! Here we go:

And yes ArcticRuger, I misspelled "Carmichel."
You'll undoubtedly notice the absence of the "rest of the package" that is included with this pistol; yellow/red lock, docs, 3 magazines (which is interesting because my other Signature pistol came with I believe, 2 mags? Certainly not 3…hmm), the .22 cal. test fire case, etc.
She's absolutely beautiful!

I don't have any #13 guns but Jonesboro (Jonesborough) Tennessee is right in the sweet spot of where my wife and I have been trying to relocate to, once we can find a place. The blue is my Zillow search zone, the red is our true preference area... I probably spend more time on Zillow than RugerForum these days.

Little hijack for WMG.

WMG,, that's not a bad area. I have a friend who lives in that area. We'd go to the Kingsport gun shows a lot many years ago. Jim used to have a table at the Kingsport show.
Nowadays,, the best gun show in that area is in Gray Tn.

Johnson City is a pretty good sized town & you'd have access to many things there. If you want more of a rural area,, look harder in your SW section in red. The NE section is built up a lot more,, and remember that's the direction of Bristol. More expensive & more traffic/population.

I used to set up at the Kingsport Gun Shows back in the 80s and 90s and it was a great show. Yep, Jim would be at his table and he often offered for sale some new model Ruger #13s. Nice guy to talk to and visit with.

That's the flyer/article I'm talking about. But the ones I have,,, Jim signed.

Give me a day or two, and I'll dig them out.
Contender, I'd really like to get my hands on a signed flyer! I've got a fairly good memorabilia collection as well…and having ANYTHING signed by Jim Carmichel would be fantastic! I'll buy if you're willing to part with one!

I believe you may be thinking of Hansen in Southport, Ct.... Their website is not an https site.

If I recall, it was a rather 'upper-crust' kinda place that catered to a tight-knit group. But, in fairness, I haven't been back in 20 yrs.

J.
You are correct, this is the place: Connecticut Shotgun. They also listed them on Guns International, Gun Broker and other auction sites.
I guess the Carmichel pistol I purchased from Guns International ended up being the last one they had. I'll tell ya that at the time I contacted Connecticut Shotguns to negotiate the deal, the guy I was speaking with told me, when asked, that they still had 2 Hawkeyes, a Gold Label, and a couple of other JC guns available, but that they hadn't put a price on them yet…
My plan was to close the deal on the Signature MkII and then contact them about purchasing another gun. Well….I received an email letting me know that they had received my payment, were packaging up my gun and were sending it out the next day…which they did. Unfortunately and as my luck would have it, it got shipped to the Cabelas in Columbus Ohio!!! The lady at Cabelas called me and asked if I was supposed to be getting this gun. (She had already unpacked it and logged it into their system!! Even though my name and the FFL holders address was labelled on the outside of the box!). I was friggin livid!
Anyway, she repacked everything and of course couldn't send it directly to the Vermont address on the shipping label, it had to be sent back to CT Shotguns, where it was inspected, repackaged and sent to Vermont! What a goat screw!
So in the meantime, the remaining Rugers they had were all sold off. Again, there were only 4-5 guns left (Rugers), but I'm still a little disappointed in a possible missed opportunity.
Right now on Guns International I think there are still two Winchester M70s, a Weatherby shotgun and I believe the two Kimber .22 caliber bolt guns with AAA+ walnut are still either there or Guns America? No more Rugers! I'm not going to lose sleep over it…one is better than none! And as I originally posted my "WTB" on the classifieds here…that's still what I'm looking to do…buy! So I'm still interested.
