Although I also CCW with a DAO CH revolver I like variety when it comes to the range as far as calibers and actions.

I guess I'm the odd ball amongst the readers here…I almost NEVER shoot single action. Since my carry gun is a DAO, concealed hammer revolver, I practice improving/maintaining technique that I might need for self defense follow up shots. It's pretty simple to "stage" a trigger so as to have a short "pull" to light off a round…and then "stage" a follow up without either changing grip or getting the other hand involved. I'm sure I'd shoot more accurately with the single action…but since our Bullseye league is 1 hand only…I just stay with the DA.
I understand your stance. My EDC is a DAO LCR .357 and I practice weekly. I find it a very light, maneuverable, accurate carry option . But.... SAOs still are very fun to plink with and actually help with stance and control.

I just got a NAA Ranger and am trying to learn to load it without putting my hand over the muzzle. I'm almost there after practicing for about 2 weeks (with it unloaded). I also found the hammer spring to be very heavy for my VERY old hands, and I'm not sure I will be able to shoot all 5 rounds before my thumb is too tired to pull it back. But it is a fun little gun.
They are definitely not the most ergonomic guns , and no way are these getting reloaded in a self defense scenario

I carry any of mine just as light carry guns for around town or as a NY reload to something else

My little LR NAA is fun to shoot at stuff with because there's basically no sights. My pair of PUGs has at least usable sights

I have a couple Ruger Mark II's and love them. No double action .22's, they're too expensive for what they are. I have a bunch (lost count) of Single Sixes and the fun factor is high. 3 of them have 9 1/2" barrels, what a blast. Recently bought an old model Super Bearcat and fell in love with it. No Wranglers here. Golf balls don't last long around my place. Also have a Browning Buckmark and 3 Colt single action 22's. I still think the Rugers are the most bang for my buck. All of my Ruger and Colt single action 22's have a 0.004" cylinder gap, plus or minus a thousandth on an inch and the triggers are between 2 and 4 pounds. They average 50 years old.
There's millions of Single Sixes out there and if you buy one that looks like it was stored at the bottom of a lake for 50 years, chances are it will still be a good shooter. You can run a hundred bricks through them and they're still tight and accurate. Everyone should have one.

For my weekly trips to the range, I take at least 2 guns. I always start off shooting at least 100 rounds of .22LR, even if the gun I am primarily shooting on the trip is one of my .45 Colts or CCW .380 ACPs. Many trips are strictly .22LR days, putting 300-500 rounds through one, or more, of my Ruger semi-autos.

As you can see, I have a little variety of choice in what I can shoot, an SR22 and 4 Mark IIs with different set-ups. The SR22 can be used for most of the same type of drills and training as appropriate for my CCW guns. The Mark IIs provide options for different types of challenges.

The Target model has a Burris FastFire 3 red dot so I can push it out to some longer ranges. The Competition Target has been fitted with Standard grips (since I'm not a bullseye shooter, I found that I didn't really like the thumb rest) and Williams Firesights and is my most accurate open sight handgun. The 22/45 also has Williams Firesights and is my favorite shooter, capable of putting 100 rounds into a 6 inch circle at 7 yards as fast as I can pull the trigger. (I do prefer the shape of the Mark II 22/45 grip to the grip on my son's Mark IV 22/45.) The Standard lets me play with the base model, and try some point/hip shooting, since I find the grip angle to be a more natural pointer, kind of like a single-action.

That, pretty much, covers all of the shooting I want to do on a regular basis.

If I need a real change of pace, I can pull out my Single-Six or 10/22.

Dave, that's a nice bunch of Ruger .23 pistols. Does the KMK6 have the tapered ear 2 piece bolt? My friend Leon had the bolt fail on his KMK4.
It is a '91 vintage gun and it does have the tapered ears on the bolt. So far, it has shown no sign of impending failure. I've heard about what happened to your friend's gun, so I always do a good inspection on mine whenever I clean it.

Thanks for liking my little set, and for mentioning about the two-piece bolt.

This one is fun. Outshoots my K22 S&W. One of the original 900 Stars. Stocks are the last pair of Lett's sold by the factory. Big Larry

I just realized that I said .23 instead of .22! Oh well... Nice stuff regardless.
