Long time lurker, long time 10/22 and Mini owner, first post

I have owned a Marlin/Glenfield M-60 since around 1982 (first rifle I ever bought), and several 10/22 Carbines since then (currently just one). Also about a half-dozen Mini-14s and a Mini-30 (again, currently just one of each), so I am not a stranger to Ruger rifles. (Oh yeah, several Mark II and Mark III .22LR pistols, and a few LCPs as well...but I digress.)

I have long lusted after a late 90s 10/22 Laminate Target but honestly have never shot enough .22LR through rifles to ever buy one. As I grow older, I am shooting more .22LR and am re-visiting my lust.

Looking at Gunbroker, I see that the 10/22 Laminate Target models are "asking" $500-600, but I don't see any of them selling. I did see one sell recently for $335, and regret not bidding on that one....

So, first question, what is the actual value?

Second question, is there any good reason to buy a stainless version other than reduced maintenance/corrosion resistance? I am not afraid of cleaning guns and although I like the look of the stainless, if it has no real-world advantage, I will not be inclined to pay a premium for one.

I purchased a stainless target at the beginning of 2020 for 375 incl. shipping and they were on sale at or near that price for the rest of 2020 IIRC. Right now stainless seems to command a more significant premium, guessing due to supply chain issues; I wouldn't consider that to be a long-term state of affairs. I have seen folks asking 500+ for used models, as you mentioned they don't seem to be moving quickly.
Stainless is possibly lower maintenance, depending on your location, but it's also a whole lot easier to dress small dings, wear marks, etc., which is why I prefer to go that route.

Welcome to the forum ! I'm new here myself. I only have one 10/22 a tactical target I bought used and put the Voltsquaren trigger in. It's a tack driver for sure. Same with my Ruger American.

welcome to the Forum. like your user name reminds me of my "old" AEC /aerospace days late1960s.....but anyway as to the 10/22s with a laminated stock there are so many versions and you say "target", so to me means heavy barrel?? and then the price goes up, the original Walmart laminated stocks for the carbines and RSI s were very available and when they closed out those we bought many of them at Walmart for $139 and $149, still have a few to this day , Chief AJ even went over one for my son Joe...... so depending on the "model" the prices will be all over ..last NON target laminated we sold at a show was $350 last fall........so compare apples to apples, etc...Good luck

gotta add, the "platform" of the 10/22 Ruger is UNLIMITED as to what you want to build it up to be, the whole enchilada, from barrel, stock, triggers , and on and on.

I bought mine new in 2017 (10/22 Target, blonde laminate stock, heavy bbl, stainless steel); paid $432.44 incl. tax. Then I put another $120 +/- into a Brimstone Gunsmithing trigger (it was their top tier).
I'm not crazy about the 'pistol grip' angle on it which causes me some discomfort when target shooting from the bags for an hour or so. Otherwise, I really like the gun and will keep it!!!

As noted above,, there are "variations" of the laminated target 10/22's out there. And we have 10/22 collectors. So,, collectors help create a demand for certain variations. Especially those with lower production numbers.
Add in the available ones for sale, the current market demands, many un-educated people buying "whatever" w/o real knowledge,, I've seen MANY guns sell for stupid high OR low prices.
So, as to I'd say $400-$475 for an average production variation will be in the fair ball park.

As for advantages of stainless over blued,, it depends upon the owner.
Lower maintenance in adverse conditions. Brighter in the woods when hunting, (stainless vs blued.)
But in general, it comes to personal preferences.

I suspect there are other model variations that would meet your criteria. For instance, mine is model 01262 and looks very similar to 01136. You might also build a target variation from scratch, there are a lot of aftermarket 10/22 parts including stripped receivers.
