I just picked up a nice 1975 vintage Mini-14 with a 180 series serial number. It is in need of a stock. I had 2 stock sets here with wood hand guards here, so I though I was good to go. Not so I find out. The nose is much lower in profile. Are the differences in the dimensions published anywhere? I would like to know what questions to ask when I come across a stock for sale on the net. Of course if anyone has a line on one, I'm all ears!

Thank you,

I'm not aware of the various Mini-14/Mini-30 stock dimensions ever being published anywhere....What I do know is that almost nothing from the 180-series rifles will interchange with similar parts from the newer versions. That, and Ruger quit servicing the old design some years ago because they don't have/can't get parts for 'em either...Might check with Gun Parts Corp ever now and then just in case they happen up on one and strip it for parts.

So in looking close at the front end of a 180 series that I have (Only a chopped front end, not the whole stock), it looks like the steel barrel channel liner is about the same, the only difference that pops out at me is that the wood along the barrel channel is about 3/16" higher on the post 180 series stocks. The profiles inside the barrel channel look remarkably the same. I'll try to post some pics here when I get a chance.

The lower gas block is shorter on the 180 series. Something I always knew but had forgotten when I ordered the new factory folder that's advertised as fitting all Mini 14s. It doesn't and the lower GB unit is the reason.

I am away from home right now but have a Mini 14 stock on the shelf. When I get back will check and see if it for a 180 series.
