I have the chance to buy a Ruger Hawkeye Predator 308 with 22" barrel. It has the adjustable LOP stock. Scope is a Vortex crossfire2 4x12x44. Looks to be in very good condition. Question is what are decent prices for a rifle like this these days? I am working on getting the rifle and scope for 8 C-notes.

Before all the nonsense with covid, CDNN sold the bare rifle for $500. I bought two of them at that time.
Now days $800 is probably pretty fair for this rifle.

The Hawkeye's have skyrocketed in price. 800 bucks isn't bad, with or without the scope. If I was buying or selling, that scope would not affect the price much.

More than the price, availability is the big issue. If you want one, and you have one available, I'd jump.🐸

Although MSRP is seldom gospel, in this case it's 1300-ish. That makes 800 sound even better. And, I don't think they are cataloging them in .308 . All the more reason, that's not a bad price.

I'd probably sell the scope and use one I already have. The scope I have in mind has a 50mm objective, and I'd rather use a smaller profile 40mm so still may need to buy another scope.

Current wholesale price on the Predator is around $950. I have found that a used gun in good condition goes for around that wholesale price. If you can get that for $800 you should jump on it.

I had to increase my offer to 850, but I did bring it home last night. Rifle is in great shape and from what I can tell so far, Vortex scopes are pretty good so I think there is no hurry to replace it. Now to take the rifle apart for inspection and cleaning, although it doesn't appear to need too much cleaning. A video on Ruger.com describes the take-down process well, but they do advise the use of a torque wrench.

First thing I did was accidentally un-cock the bolt while the bolt was out of the rifle. Found a simple way to fix that on YouTube.
Let's see if it works...
