This past spring I bought a KetTec P3AT that has gone through about 200 rounds without a hicough. That's with the original mag.

I bought two new factory mags that jam after three rounds. MecGar cannot help and KelTec wants me to pay to send it back. Yeah, $40 to ship a $200 gun.

So, I should have bought a Ruger.

When I didn't want a Ruger, I kept seeing them for $199.

Now that I want one, I can't find them for $199.

Any suggestions?

You may want to take a couple minutes and see if you can fix the magazines.
I have found many magazines where the springs were put in backwards, it makes a big difference. You might also find some burrs around the witness holes or burrs on the sides, front, or back of the magazine follower that can be easily shaved off.

CDNN has them now for $229 but think they were recently on sale for $199.

I've learned the hard way that $200 are guns are worth every penny you pay for them. Now I try to "invest" in higher quality firearms and have fewer problems such as yours.

So you're saying a $229 gun is better than a $200 gun.

Try wikiarms.com or if you aren't in a rush you can just keep a watch on slickguns.com. At wikiarms.com you can do a search for a particular model of gun. They will show online sellers with prices listed from lowest to highest. Make sure to check out what shipping costs are as sometimes the lowest price isn't the best deal depending on what shipping is.

Time to wake up a thread. I had forgotten that I had posted this.

I resolved the problems with the Kel-Tec by replacing the recoil springs. Strange but true. Whilst tinkering with the gun, I launched the nested recoil spring across the basement and couldn't find it. I called Kel-Tec, they sent me a new one. Hey presto! Flawless functioning with all mags. I ran about a 100 rounds through it without a hitch.

However, I still wanted to get a Ruger. I don't recall where I found one at my price point but I did. I ran multiple mags through it without a hitch. Surprisingly, the Kel-Tec shot a slightly tighter group but not enough to make me give up on the Ruger. The biggest problem for me is that the Ruger's trigger pinched my finger.

The end result is that the Kel-Tec P3AT is my pocket and the Ruger's still in its box.

Ah, the 'ole Ruger trigger pinch problem. I'm honestly surprised there aren't more complaints here about it. I really don't want to modify my trigger finger placement to avoid something Ruger should fix. None of my other pistols (SW, Kimber, Sig) do it. I was almost ready to sell my LCP Max as I just didn't enjoy shooting it. Then, I got some very thin duty gloves, only wear one on my shooting hand- Voila, no more trigger pinch. Recently ran two boxes of ammo straight without any discomfort. Finally enjoyed shooting the little Max. Oh, back on topic, if I run across a less than $200 LCP, I'm gonna buy it. LCP's are awesome pocket pistols.

Six and a half years later, this still applies. At least for me.

In all honesty pretty much every gun I've bought has worked although there was one I made minor modifications to improve. I have learned though that usually for about $100 dollars difference in price one gets a much nicer pistol. There are some real bargains out there in the handgun world these days.
