Lemarion looks like such a nice young man.

Lots of open carry advocates I know are always asking for examples of when open carry has gone wrong. Here's an example.
The article doesn't say whether he was open carrying or not. It could have been that, sloppy concealment or maybe just an accidental exposure of his firearm. Any way you cut it it is just sad. I know we all preach situational awareness & we all try to be as aware as possible but it is very dificult to be completely aware of everything at all times.

Edited to add: A touch convoluted to type but the victim was my daughters soccer coach's wife's cousin. From what I understand he was a fireman. We aren't really close to these people though we are friendly with them. I like to hang out with her dad when I get the chance. He is an old deer hunter/shooter.

Terrible event, I wish more detail would be available about if the gun was just in the waist band or secured in a holster. It would be in the police report.

An IWB retention holster or maybe pocket carry might have helped. Better to had not chased after the thief. A very sad situation.

Unlike a robbery where the crook checks out the place, area, workers, traffic etc. This was likely just a crime of opportunity. The crook saw the gun, sized up the victim and thought he could get away. When he got back with the gun to his hommies, he would be a hero. He just needs to build up that street cred and get more respect you know.

Maybe I'd feel different about OC if I lived in a 'jungle setting'. As is, when I'm working and wearing my 'semi-required' agency logo outer wear I'm likely to be a 'target' anyway.
