Kimber made 17 M2 conversions for 1911's. Wish I would have picked one up when they were available.

The Ruger was not accurate, scoped, the flash at the cylinder was large. Never grouped, the round seems to need more barrel to get speed / accuracy.

Ruger made at least two prototype Mark III pistols in .17 M2. As I recall they had an 8" barrel.
Ruger didn't produce them because they believed the impulse of the recoil on the bolt and bolt stop was too great.

I have a pair of 1911s in .17HM2. One is a complete pistol from Kimber, the other is a Kimber top half mated to a Rock Island frame.

Both are reliable and yield better accuracy than I can hold off hand.

One note, Kimber used steel slides for the .17 Mach 2, and aluminum slides for the. 22LR

Kevin, the OP is asking about .17 HMR cal guns. EDIT; Aww heck,, I missed the part where the OP added he was interested in .22 short semi's as well. My apologies Kevin!

But to answer your question, yes,, High Standard did make a .22 Short only semi-auto.,

Revolvers I knew about.
My question was about semi-auto pistols.
I also wonder about semi-auto pistols in .22 short.
There are a few being offered on Gunbroker. Some high end target pistols and some mouse guns. I'm looking at a couple only because I don't have one.

Ok, as I wipe off the egg from my face,, I'll add a bit more about .22 Short cal pistols.

The High Standard's in .22 Short are a very good option. They made a few different models that were .22 Short only. If I were to get one,, I'd look hard at finding a "Olympic" model. I believe they were made in a few different series. I have a Series "103 Olympic" myself. VERY well worth it if you wish to shoot .22 Shorts.

I have a fair amount of experience with 17 HMR rifles and simply can't imagine what purpose would be served by a 17 HMR handgun.
Common ammo when small game hunting is one thought.
And when does a "purpose" need to be involved for most gun guys?
We want what we want.

I see a couple on Gun Broker that interest me.
I have never used gun broker. Looked at web site for process but didn't really give easy to find/understand answer to my questions.
Like how much to register?
Buyers fee?
Any other red tape that I need to be aware of?

I do understand it needs to be shipped to an ffl.

Free to register (unless something has changed)
No buyers fee
Just the usual FFL and payment hoops

Regarding 22 short semi- there are .22 short bolts and mags availabe for the Ruger MK series. Aftermarket of course. Although something rattling in my brain says one of he major builders of these passed away.

Contender, hey, was I right about Hammerli offering 22 short pistols? I seem to think I've seen them for sale. Those "Olympic" style semi autos.

I didn't have a clue about any 17 HMR semi auto, but it looks like that question was answered.

Is 17 HMR even a good caliber to be shooting from such a short barrel? I thought that round needed a longer barrel to get up to speed.
