"bedroom gun' reminds me of an article I read a few years back about a guy here in S.C.
70 something black man lived alone... widower... all his adult life he slept with a handgun under his pillow.
(I bet just about everyone he knew that knew this thought he was paranoid and crazy)
then one night he woke up to a noise... guy was standing over him holding a pry bar....
guy with the pry bar left the house in a body bag.....

Don't you just love a story with a happy ending? ;)
My nightstand guns vary from time to time. Currently there's a S&W 60-4 loaded and a Colt Gold Cup with loaded mag alongside.

This is what my dresser looked like this morning and it's not staged in any way. What I call my bedroom gun is not in the group pic but in the dresser drawer, a Kahr CW45 (ACP). Why wouldn't I call the other four handguns my bedroom guns? That's a good question

On the dresser is an original LCP, LCP MAX, Colt Defender 45, and a S&W Shield Plus 9. I have a different use for each of those 4 guns every single week. I really need to think about putting a couple back in the safe, ya think? Naaa...

Question of the day--Am I married? LOL

So there are my pens; I was wondering where they all went. Really! I couldn't find one this morning and I looked at the pic and just now noticed them 🤣

I'm similar to others, I have various ones that get called into duty. First I'm surprised there are folks that don't have a long gun handy. An 8 shot 870 is pretty handy when it appears there are multiple assailants. I also typically have a couple of handguns handy, when my dog alerts, right now it's a Taurus G3c 9mm, with 12+1, when my pants come off that gun goes next to the bed with a Ruger Speed six or a security six.

The wife has an LCR. I frankly think if someone does get in after the first shot they will be on their way out.

I've fired short barreled handguns in enclosed places (most notably a 4" 357 mag-4 shots in a 10'x10' space). Two things will become immediately clear:
1: your hearing will NEVER be the same
2: if it's dark, you won't see anything for several seconds until your eyes readjust from the massive muzzle flash
A shotgun with 18-20" barrel is nearly as bad. But if you choose to go that route, one of the best 'inside' loads isn't one that most recommend. A 'low recoil' 1 ounce 12 gauge properly directed is adequate, easier to handle, and speeds follow ups if more than one is actually needed (multiple targets). A glob of shot approximately the size of a golf ball at 900-1000 fps hits like a sledge hammer.
