Can anyone point me to where an open carry was shot

Well, I just realized one reason I don't open carry is that I don't have a need or the time to have a discussion with some stranger about it regardless of whether they are pro or con. In thinking about this, I'm even uncomfortable to a degree with someone make a comment about my Sig or Ruger hat I'm wearing.

I don't think I've ever heard of a situation of open carry, non LEO, citizen, was shot by a bad guy solely because they were open carrying.

gjgalligan I have no idea what your post has to do with what I asked.

CC vs OC was not close to what I asked about. I am doing a paper on shootings and the topic is if any person not in law enforcement open carrying has been shot because of it. I think my English teacher wants 75 people doing his research.

Maybe if you would have included the research part in your first post it might have helped.
I took as you you were just one of many that "wondered" about the concept of which is better CC or OC.
I was just pointing out that to most people it is a personal choice.
Sorry that I wasn't able to read your mind based on the limited info you posted.

Maggot probably thought he was Wyatt Earp or something. He should get a Yeet Cannon because he will Yeet it before he would use it.

I would have expected him to run for cover/concealment, draw & prepare to defend himself. I would say he was completely unprepared. He probably thought his gun was a talisman that would keep bad people away.

Situational Awareness: This poor guy had no idea what was happening around him. Ear buds and loud music. Never checks his 6 even before the truck came back. Without his hearing, he had no idea he was in danger till it was on him. The earbuds and happy dancing may have made him an even more attractive bit of prey

Most prey animals survive through their situational awareness, not their aggression. Take a lesson from the animal kingdom and lose the earbuds.

If you are so secure that you don't need to monitor your surroundings and can ignore your own saftey, then why are you carrying? Maybe a fashion statement. A pit bull getting out of a yard behind him could have taken this guy out.

I support open carry but carry concealed. "Don't Draw Fire" is a really good concept.

I couldn't understand what the robbers were yelling in post #25. But if they really attacked the guy for open carry. Makes me wonder why they left the gun in the street and still tried to kill the guy after he tossed it. Looked more like the typical drive by shooting done by gangsters. Or they had a prior beef and took the opportunity for pay back when they noticed him alone without any situational awareness. IE, easy target. As been said "there's more to the story".

Stated/implied in many comments is that a perp, intending to rob an establishment, first cases the joint and identifies the open carry threat(s). I challenge that thinking, and suspect it's also very difficult to prove/disprove. I mean, the dead perps can't be interviewed. Neither can the successful ones.

In any event I personally prefer CC to OP just to minimize the annoyance factor. I, too, have $0.02.
