A gun store has a lightly used NRA Mini 14 for sale for $599. It comes with only a 5 round mag, but the gun is in good shape. Is this a good deal?

That is a bit high IMO, but if you really want an NRA Mini it might be worth it. Otherwise you can probably buy a new Mini with the 20rd mag for around the same price.

At one time I was collecting the Ruger FONRA guns and I never saw or heard of one for sale until your post!! They are almost unheard of around hear!!
If I was still going in that direction (collecting) I would snap that gun up in a heart beat!

I wasn't really thinking of the gun as far as strictly collecting. If I bought the gun I would definitely shoot it. I like the heavy short barrel and the hogue stock. Of course, it being a NRA edition made me think it would hold its value. Btw FONRA is a great cause, I go tho their annual dinner here in Independence, KS.

OOPS!!!

It just dawned on me that we are talking about two different mini-14's.
You are talking about the NRA version, I'm talking about the FONRA banquet
guns. Sorry for the confusion,,,,, I guess I have still never seen one for sale!!! :D

I paid somewhat more for mine, NIB, and it's also a subscription gun. I would say that if a feller was looking for a Mini with that handy little shorty-barrel, then I don't believe you could find one cheaper. However, I would be concerned that it doesn't have the two hi-cap magazines that it came with.

With that in mind, ya might wanna see if the seller would spring for a couple of magazines.

I thought that was a good price but then saw that it only had a 5-round mag. As said, they came with two 20-round mags. I agree they should hold their value as they were only offered for one year.

I think I have an extra 2-sided advertisement sheet from Ruger for these. If you buy it, shoot me a PM and if I have an extra I will send you one.

Yeah, and I might add the subscription guns come in at a reduced cost to those subscribers.
And gas ain't $1.89 a gallon any more.

The NRA Mini's came with 20-round magazines (for most states) and 5-rounders for those semi-communist states.

Sorry for jumping on this thread but that seems reasonable to me. Our local Wal-Mart has a brand new Mini 14 and the price is $695.00. So $599.00 sounds like a good deal no matter what "version" the gun is.

So for an update. I decided to go for the NRA mini 14. I think I got a deal. $590 out the door with a 5 round mag and a 20 round, both Ruger factory magazines. The gun is on layaway, but I am glad I didn't let it slip away.

Sir, I found this post while searching for information about my FONRA Mini14. I'm a member of the other Ruger forum and just joined this one when I saw this comment you made 10 years ago. I tried to PM you but for some reason cant find a way to do that. Do you know much about these FONRA guns? Talked to Ruger today about it, they didn't offer much.

Thank you in advance.

What info are you looking for?
I suppose there are some collectors out there who specialize in FoNRA guns.
Seems in most cases, stuff made as commemoratives or anniversary or special editions only realize a very slight increase in value and then only if the gun is still new-in-the-box with all the associated packaging, etc.

Of course there may be exceptions but they're darn few and far between.

BTW, when I say increase in value, that's the value of a "regular" gun. Many of the FoNRA items sell for much much more because it's a charity-related event.

FONRA rifle for 1995 events, around 550 made.
I'll check my notes and see if I have any other info. Contender is involved in the FONRA pretty heavy maybe he can add to the info.
Terry
Note- There are no known serial numbers reported to R.E.N.E., your serial number does help to establish a base number for the rifles.
Maybe others will report them to Chad.
