Uberti 1873 357 Mag

Any of you guys loading for 1873 357?
So far I've worked up loads with titegroup, VV N340, and IMR 4227. Still have unique but don't have much on hand. Just wondering if anyone else loads for one of these.

BTW, I'm using Matt's Bullets 160 grain RNFP in 357 cases.

I have a old Rossi clone imported by Navy Arms, in .357 from the late 1970s a 1892 winchester copy. I don't hunt with it and load it following Hornady rifle loading data with 4227 powder using 158 gr JHP bullets. I have thought about trying the 180 gr bullets, but never have. I sometimes carry that rifle while riding a ATV to shoot rattlesnakes. Haven't done that yet either. I did drive over 2 last summer.
Otherwise it's just a rifle to shoot at 25 to 50 yds at the range. I set up clay targets or other stuff about that size to blast at while practicing standing or kneeling shooting.

I'm not about to offer reload opinions for the 1873. All I remember reading in the past it that the 1873 toggle action isn't strong enough to handle the modern .357 mag pressures, unless really toned down.

Actually, I didn't ask for reloading data. I'm fully capable and have already worked up several loads on my own. Just brought it up as a topic of discussion. Thanks for your input all the same.

I load mine with what would be a 38 +p+ without hitting true magnum power. Runs like a champ and is pretty accurate.

I much prefer the 1892 because of the strength. Hope that helps this topic.

I shoot SASS and reload for the Uberti 1873 357 magnum, 20" barrel. I use a TCFP 125gr cast from Rim Rock Bullets in Kalispell, MT and cast the same bullet. Also the load that I use for the 1873 works very well in all of my Taylor's & Company Uberti Smoke Wagon Cattleman Deluxe 357 with a 5.5" barrel.

Are you using 38 special or 357 brass? I've read the 73 gets finicky about load length. I'm not doing cowboy action shooting but have interest in the future.

DRAM40A1, I am using Starline 357 Magnum brass. So far no problems, the 1873 functions without problems. Considering that each stage is timed and the rifle is cycled quickly. Hope this helps. Monty

DRAM40A1, forgot to mention, I also use Titegroup and I am very satisfied with its performance.
