Number made? No idea, sorry.

Value …. These days? Not much would surprise me. $700 wouldn't.

Heck, there's a nice 4 inch blue Security Six in the box right now on Gun Broker bringing $1200.

If you can do some research (or ask here) and discover that it was part of a US or other government contract or a batch for some LEA, some buyers might well pay a bit more for it. That particular configuration was one of the most popular with LEAs and security forces. Look it over REAL closely for import/export marks, rack numbers, and any other non-Ruger markings. And DO ask the experts here if the serial number shows it was part of a contract.

Really need to know what any (or none) markings are on it and the original box. Is it a full or "half" shroud - that makes a difference in pricing. Standard pinned front sight or a removable front sight? Pricing of any firearm really hinges on getting any and all information about the gun, and don't discount what markings are on the box/shipper - those matter too.

I think the USPS guns were Speed Six, 3 inch and 357 but ….. maybe they did a GP for them later too.

Suppose it could of been a NYPD gun.

I looked thru my stuff and I also have the same gun with original yellow and black cardboard box. It also falls within a similar serial number. I don't believe there is anything unusual or outstanding about this model. I bought mine used back in 2012 and I would rate it at an A-. All I can tell u without too deep in the archives is it is listed as a Ruger KGPF-840

I retired from the postal service in 2002. A few years before that a postal inspector came by. I asked where his gun was and he said in his briefcase. I asked to see it and it was in fact a ruger speed six,357, 3 inch barrel stainless steel. I would surely like to have one just like it.

Yep … and the USPS guns were in that "matte" finish. ( Target gray? )
Wish I had an original box for mine!

All the .38 GPs are on the scarce side since most production was .357. The problem is getting anyone to care. Not a huge collector following in the GPs yet, but their time will come, as it finally has for the -Six series DAs.

Here is a postal inspector Speed Six:

Hittman, Weaselmeatgravy,

I will admit to jealousy on your USPS Speed Sixes. Never had gun/fun money when I found one. Never found one when I had fun/gun money. Oh well, life goes on.

They are valuable in certain places for specific people.

Boston had special police. They were only allowed to carry 4" .38 specials.

Point being there might be another location with similar restrictions for security guards or special police force.
