Stopped by a pawn shop on the way home and saw a rather nice but somewhat gently used OM Single Six in the display case.

Looks like it has the .22 mag cylinder but not the .22 LR one.

Looked at the Sturm Ruger page and no joy on the serial number.

Would anyone be able to maybe tell me when it was made and if or how I could get a .22 LR cylinder for it?

Thanks Guys
Doug

It is a 1969 Model Old model Super Single Six (serial number range 60-00001 - 60-13851)
Do a search for Ruger cylinders or post a WTB here in the Classified section I
Thanks Fox Mike

If I recall,it had a fluted cylinder rather than a non fluted type.

Does that indicate a .22 LR cylinder?

Not at all. The old model .22 mag cylinder was fluted as well. Once you know what to look for, its pretty easy to tell them apart. There is a line about 1/8-1/4" from the end of the chambers on the .22 mag cylinder, while the .22 LR cylinder does not have one. Also, the back of the cylinder will be smooth an a magnum, and most OM .22 LR (pre NM cylinder) will have a groove between the chambers for the firing pin.

The best and easiest, way until you've looked a few, is to just grab a 22 mag round and see if it chambers in the cylinder. If it does, then it's a magnum, if it doesn't then it's a .22 LR cylinder.

.22 Mag cylinders are laying beside the pistols. OM on top, NM on bottom.

FYI: Recently purchased a New Model Single Six (matching ser #s) and both LR & Mag cylinders are fluted. The old Model that I bought in the early '60's that I gave to my son had flutes on both cylinders also.
