I never wanted a AR pistol, but I seen the Shockwave Blade forearm brace on a few, and I had to have one. Bought a kit from Midsouth Shooters Supply at a decent price, got a Anderson lower for $40, put it all together, with the Blade, of course, and this is one of the most fun guns I ever owned! It truly is a blast to shoot. And more accurate than I ever figured it would be, with the 10 inch barrel. It's loud, even with muffs, but not as bad (to me) as a M1A Socom I used to own. Anybody considering buying or building one, check out that Shockwave Blade. I have on backorder a KAK industries buffer tube for it. It has little dimples in the tube so you can put your Blade where you want it and it won't move. That's the only drawback to the Blade I have seen, it will move around on you eventually with a slick tube. But the KAK buffer tube supposed to solve that problem.

The thought of an AR pistol has intrigued me for a while. I didn't want a 5.56. I was seriously considering a .300 Blackout, since I'd built one in that caliber a few years back.

However, I don't want to shoot it like a tiny rifle like 95% of the videos on YouTube. I want an actual pistol...like a Star Wars blaster... (showing my geek-dom now). So, I figured I'd go to a pistol caliber.

I've got all the parts together to build one in 9mm. 8" barrel and Ruger AR556 lower, set up to take Colt SMG mags.

Don't have anything for a brace, figuring I'd see how it behaves without anything first. If I think I need a brace, I might look at the Shockwave or the mini version of the SIG brace.

I had zero interest in an AR pistol until the Shockwave brace. Now, I have 2 AR pistols, both with the Shockwave. As said earlier, they are a lot of fun to shoot and are pretty accurate. Yes, they are loud but a flash can helps get the noise away from you.

Sounds like we have very similar "pistols" 10.5" PSA upper, Anderson lower, and Shockwave brace. I'd suggest getting a flash can of some sort to lessen the noise. They direct the sound down-range and away from the shooter much better than a standard A2 flash hider.

Back in 2010, I had someone try to sell me an AR pistol. I believe it had an 6 inch barrel. Wow, it was loud. Nope not for me. Back then I questioned the legality, but of course the seller said it was legal.

If you guys like the Shockwave Blade, wait until you get a look at SB Tactical's SBA3 brace. It's adjustable and fits on a standard carbine buffer.

^^Yes-sir-ee^^ that's the cat's meow. Works great. Only thing better may the 'rip brace' but I haven't actually tried one. I got caught by a 'good deal' on an adjustable brace a while back. Requires a special buffer tube with slotted detent divots rather than the round holes of the standard carbine tube. Works(once you get the correct buffer tube) but not what I thought it was.

Tim,
I can imagine the smile on your face. :) I was like you a little hesitant at first, picked up my first one a .223 NATO, 10 1/2" Anderson up at a gun show, wow!
Got my second one another .223 NATO cheap entry level 10 1/2" Omni-Hybrd & just built my third one, 10 1/2" in 9MM. More fun than a barrel of monkey's.
Have fun!!!
Terry

PS- I would recommend viewing ATF Worksheet 4999, which I believe took effect this month & go from there.

I believe that the OAL rule of less than 26" is the key here. It could be either a pistol or carbine tube as long as the less than 26" OAL rule is maintained.

thats a charger pistol so that bit behind the receiver is no more then on my rossi ranch hand pistol but i know 26 over all is what a shotgun with pistol grip rule is .i make that the same exact size as my ranch hand butt
