Obviously there aye mass produced knives with the quality ranging from excellent to abominable. Then there are what I call semi custom. Think Randall. Finally we come to true one of custom knives made entirely by the hand of a single person.
True custom knives are usually expensive and rarely used. I'm different in that I think all knives should be used, regardless of cost. But I'm not perfect in this. I bought one Randall never intending to use it.

I do have some true customs that I use regularly, like this one.

The knife smith has sadly past. And I sometimes get folks that recognize his work telling me it shouldn't be used. Inspent a bit of time talking with him and his view was like mine. They're made to be used.

Let's see your custom knives and tell us if they are used or just for looking at.

It is micarta. It has layers of different colors. The scrimshaw effect is accomplished by etching through various layers to reach the color desired. I have some in other colors including a white that looks like newer ivory and one in others that give very unique scales.

Sadly the maker passed some years back and no one else seems to have caught on to this technique.

A few of the knives I made out of old files. The big ones are 14". It was just a hobby for several years. LOL
