Pick tomorrow's collectables?
Doubt it. I can't even pic which reloading component is gonna become unobtanium next.
Ain't that the truth! I kind of expect the Democrats to propose a complete ban on lead bullets ("THEY'RE TOXIC!"), but they'll likely just bypass that and try to ban everything, from charcoal & saltpeter on up. Next thing we'll be hearing about is "ghost ammo" & how dangerous it is!

Yes some oddball stuff ends up collectible. But all top quality low production guns have brought big money 100+ years down the road. Add documented famous ownership and/or engraving and the prices can quickly exceed what I paid for our house in SoCal ($45,000 - 1977)

Who knows? People forget, because it's been awhile since the Clinton gun & magazine ban, but popularity depends in part on what the Federal government lets people buy. Back when you could only get 10-round mags, a lot of folks went with 40 or 45 caliber handguns. If we're ever facing nationwide 8-round limits or a semi-auto ban (which is not impossible, given who's running the government), an 8-round .327 Magnum revolver might be an attractive option!

This is a good point, but with 20% of the states currently having magazine capacity limits (and an unknown amount of local jurisdictions) there hasn't been much movement at all toward higher capacity revolvers (S&W Performance Center not withstanding). Maybe there is a tipping point that is above 20%? I hope we never find out.

With .327 Federal Magnum out for 15 years now, I would have thought there would be some movement toward this but your point is well taken, necessity is the mother of invention after all.

Yeah and now that new 30 caliber pistol round. Suppose to bridge the gap between the 380 and 9MM. Ain't no expert but wonder how this round will fare. Read a review in one of the glossy rags. Think I will just stick with my 9MM S&W CS series.

Funny you should mention that, I just posted in the ammunition sub forum about the possibility of using 30 Super Carry in a .327 revolver with moon clips (if they existed).

I'm sticking with 9mm as well.

I thought about this.....a lot.........back in 1983-1984.......Maximums were going for 3-350 NIB.......bought a couple low, 2 digit guns for 5.......I wonder if that could be why I have so many now? I always said the Max was going to be the next Hawkeye........But, above all else I really like 'em and shoot the snot out of a couple of them.........

Well GHEN guess it's all about selling new guns sometimes and making money. I sure recall the 357 Maximum back then. Something about flame cutting of the top strap? Thought it was chambered in the Contender pistols too.

"Cllectable" as a word has been butchered. People now think whatever it is they have is a valuable collectable no matter what that item may be. "Limited" they equate to rare collectable now as well. For what may me actually collected in the sence of a model meaningful of recognition... Maybe the original Vaqueros, but really don't see anything since those or current as retaining enough long term interest. Then again...back to "oh it's a limited edition, that makes it a rare collectable". LoL

I don't know , all those .45/ .410 Revolvers are ugly and stupid , but they're popular as heck . When Glock first came out , most long time shooters considered plastic guns an abomination , and not only are they now considered normal , but at least half of semiautos introduced in recent decades are Glock knockoffs to varying degrees .

Agree. Many of the other "collectibles" are worth money now long before the term collectible was in vogue.

A first criteria would need to be.... out of what series would the collectibility come from.
There are literally no collectors of many of Ruger's model series... the EC9 for example, that I know of... so it would need to come from a series with at least somewhat of a chance of somebody recognizing the rarity of the variation/model.
Whatever that may be, and because of what collectors collect the most of... I've got to say it will come from a .22 pistol or SA handgun series of some sort.

anything can be collectible.
profitable is the important part.

i most likely have the most complete model 50 collection in the nation. i liked them, so i collected them.
issue is now that im older, NO ONE LIKES the model 50.
so, ws it a smart thng to do?
personally, at the time, yes. i shoot the daylights out of them.
investment wise?
no.

Just found out that old Puma Skinner made in 1966 I bought for $26 I think back then is going for good money on Fleabay. Excellent condition could bring $300. Guess folks like that Pumaster nickel plated carbon steel. Glad I held onto that one!!

Well , $26 in 1966 is about $230 today .

But yes , the older Puma knives are both high quality , and in great demand today .

Wow $230 today! Thanks Biggfoot. Now if only I could get back that S&W 19 snubby K frame I had. Seem em going for big money on Gunjoker. Seems so many of the older revolvers from Colt and S&W along with the metal frame semis often bringing good money for sure.

^^^^ THIS ^^^^

There's a handful of sellers on one of the auction sites that slap a ridiculous price and the words (usually it's the first two of the listing) "ULTRA RARE" on everything they list. Makes me chuckle when those listings come up in a search with 20 other identical items selling selling for 4 to 5 times less. If I check the completed auctions they've relisted that item a bunch of times.
