Never really paid attention to its serial number location before, But now I'm intrigued.
I believe a 50th anniversary model was marked thusly , but they were blue.
Any ideas?

Ruger moved the serial number from the side of the frame to the butt of the grip frame between 93-39853 and 93-39966. They may have decided to do that to keep the lines of the 50th Anniversary Bearcat clean.
Then when the Lipsey's shopkeeper Bearcats came out, there was nowhere to put the serial number so Ruger moved the number back to the frame again.

Thanks for that Chet
Sounds like a simple deviation and not some obscurity. As such probably no collectable factor but at least I know it is a legitimate number.
Any idea how long this lasted start to finish, or years involved ?

I have some notes around here somewhere on when they started putting the serial number on the side of the frame again, but don't have that handy at the moment.
Just from memory, there are probably somewhere under 20,000 New Bearcats (blue and stainless models) that are without the serial number on the frame.

With 20,000 made then there are more .44 Flattops made then this model Bearcat!!!!! Of course, being rare doesn't make it valuable. You still have to have DEMAND!!!
