Has anyone successfully done this, by switching the load-assist button to the opposite side of the magazine, as required by the MK I?.....'Any issues in switching the button to the other side of the mag?

yes, it is done all the time and can be seen in various posts here on the forum over the years........ the one issue that does come up is if the head of the button itself is too large a diameter, in an old model A-54 frame the channel in the side of the grip frame can be too narrow and drag, hang up , fail to work smoothly....there is a difference in these diameters as for the MK II, the button needs to be larger to activate the hold open lever inside the grip frame near the top...we've simply switched out the buttons or if need be "turn down" make the diameter smaller....won't know till you look, compare the newer ones to any of the mags you currently use, if so , then "replicate" the size.if it fails to work smoothly in your guns' frame..........may not have to anything...........
Good luck......;)

Thanks for the info...I have an A-54 frame, and the head is noticeably smaller...Rather than turn-down the button from a MK II mag, guess I'll just give Ruger $32.95 ea, plus $10 shipping for the correct mags

I guess not bad at $50 each compaired to the new made ones from Ruger.
