Yes, I have drawn my gun in self defense. I have never shot anyone, yet.
But I have put some rounds into the ground, to get their attention. I have no doubt that if I ever need to shoot an attacker, I will do it.

Several hundred, in fact.
A long time ago in a far away and exotic land on a paid vacation that was akin to an eco-tour with lots of fresh air, camping, morning walks, simple but healthy food, and sufficient exercise with interesting and lifelong companions. Unplanned excursions and events with local inhabitants were a continuing delight.

I believe the tour was arranged by 11B enterprises. There was a similar 0311 program offered by another firm.

Well my story is from a different perspective of self defense. In the late 60's I was your typical country redneck doing really stupid teenage crap. Down a dirt road from where I lived was an old dump. You know the kind of secluded wooded spot in the middle of nowhere, that the city folks would dump their old furniture and appliances along with any other kind of garbage you could imagine. By day it was a great spot to shoot rats with our .22's but towards evening it was also a great spot for those same city folk to go parking with their gal's. One evening myself and 2 or 3 of my friends (all local boys) decided to drive on back to the dump with a couple dozen eggs and surprise some of these city folks getting down and dirty with their dates. We would egg the crap out of them and take off. Yes, we were bored. We had done it before. There they were sitting back by the railroad tracks like always. Eggs in hand we slowly pulled up. Just as we were getting out of the car, the driver swung his arm out the window and at the end of it was the biggest damn revolver I had ever seen. (just a footnote) when looking at the business end of any gun they tend to appear bigger. No words were necessary and we were out of there in a flash. One of those life learning experiences you might say and believe me I learned a lot that night.

Yup, When I was 17 I worked at a Gas station and was traveling to work in the evening with the owner, to work on my own car, and he was going to help. He was mad that a driver in front of us was going to slow etc and at the next light decided to jump out and give him a piece of his mind. Well I got out of the car with him. In a flash(seemed that way) the guy in the car ahead of us, jumps out and starts firing at us!! I end up under the car with my boss, looking at each other going WTF just happened? and thanked our lucky stars the other driver was done and drove away. I have never gotten out of the car since then, for anything. Live and learn.

Not sure if this counts but years ago where I worked in a job referral office, there was a belligerent customer yelling that he wanted a refund. As the assistant manager I explained that we couldn't do that. The customer jumped the counter, grabbed me by the neck and told me " I'm going to take the money out of your ass." Luckily I had a pistol in my suit jacket pocket even though it was against company policy. Without pulling the pistol from my pocket, I calmly said to the custom one word, "listen" and I cocked the hammer. His eyes got as big as saucers and quickly let go of my neck. He promptly jumped back over the counter and ran out the door.

Most polls are designed to elict a specific response. People tend to believe the poll that agrees with thier own point of view.
Agreed. Most polls that I have seen usually ask a question in such a manner as to get a certain response, whereas if the question was asked differently, there would be a different response. A good example was a poll that I recently saw asked "if guns should be allowed in schools?" If the question had of been, " should armed Police be allowed in schools?" it would probably get a different response.
