Carpenter bees have found my new and very expensive (if you've bought any lumber in the past 18 mos you understand) front porch. Me and the OM Super SS are 3 for three today with help from CCI's .22 mag shotshells. Here's a pic of the first two, number three was point blank range and nothing left to photograph. And, all were taken on the wing in a highly sporting manner, no sitting shots taken 😑.

I too hate carpenter bees. And I know what you mean about lumber prices. I spent over $200 today & didn't get much.

I've been considering building some rice loads just for those pesky bees,, but I do enjoy whacking them with my tennis racket.

I feel kinda bad for mine went from wood siding and wood fence to Hardy board siding and vinyl fence. Now they hover around not knowing what to do.

YOu are going to go broke AND still lose your porch trying to shoot them all. Spray down with permethrin.

Or use Dawn dish soap and water in a spray bottle. Gets rid of the bugs and cleans your house.

My wonderful better half was commenting the other day about some woman on FB defending the "poor carpenter bees" and singing their praises. Apparently,, many folks offered to let HER have all their carpenter bees to destroy her house.

Me? I'll keep swatting them with my tennis racquet.
If I ever get around to making some rice loads,,look out bees!

Yeah, I know shooting them isn't an efficient control method but it sure is fun. My wife was laughing at how much fun I was having with it. I got two yesterday with my baseball cap; the single six wasn't handy.
So, a question - how did carpenter bees survive for thousands of years before people started building things out of lumber?

I have a carpenter bee trap on my deck that works. They crawl into a hole in a piece of wood mounted on the deck and go down into a screw on plastic bottle. They check in but cannot check out. Probably a dozen dead bees in the bottom of my trap now. Not as much fun as a 22 with rat shot though.
