I have two, 5-shot 44s: a Ruger GP100 and a Charter Arms Bulldog.

I used to have a 3" S&W Model 24 but the trigger reach on an N frame is not right for me.

My handload: 200 gn copper-plated flat nose at ~825 fps. I will rely on penetration.

I keep a Bulldog in my truck. Especially comfortable when traveling. I also have the GP100 3" in 44 Special. I have an S&W 69 which is a 5 shot 44 mag, but makes a good 44 special. I'm wanting to pick up a S/A which I'm hoping will be a 3-3/4" Ruger 44 Super. With the muzzle flip will predominately use it for 44 Special. Those models a tough to find, when they don't want an arm AND a leg. Not sure I need all of those at my age so probably won't get the Super. At my age how many do I need. I mostly EDC a 9mm. I think the bigger round is more of a wood round.

I used to carry, alternately, an original Charter Arms Bulldog & a Taurus Titanium 445 (both .44 Special) . I still have both.

I have carried .44s , and wouldn't object to doing so again , other than having nice .45 Colts to fill the niche .

I've always been intrigued by Bulldogs , but didn't find one with acceptable price/ condition . Or run accross a 431 during their span of production .

Seperate topic , but in recent years , I only purchase C&R eligible handguns , otherwise would have acquired a Tracker .

When I carry in town, it is a .44 Special Bulldog. But not daily. Work doesn't allow on premises of course,

I am a fan of carrying a revolver. when you pull the trigger, they go off. not always the case with a semiauto. anyway, in response to the original question, I have several SAA's in 45 colt that I carry. sometime back I acquired a Ruger super BH in the 3 3/4" barrel model. I figured I would carry it instead of my Colt sheriff. since then, I have gone a different direction. I am using a .357 Colt DA. mainly because of ammo availability. I have lots of 38 and 357 but hardly any of the 44. so I haven't shot the Ruger and have decided that I will sell it and just use the 45 or 357.
I am satisfied with the ballistics of the 45. not as much punch as the 44 but sufficient

Used to carry a 4 5/8" SBH when there was known to be a cougar stalking our area and when I was scouting elk in Montana & Colorado. It's still loaded Nosler 210 HP waiting to be used but I'm not physically able to shoot it except under dire circumstances.
