I'm a 1911 guy. I gunsmithed for a few decades and was trained by Bill Laughridge of Cylinder & Slide, so 1911's are in my blood.
BUT, I bought a S&W M&P .40 a few years back and love the way it fits my hand! It was a LEO trade-in but looked unissued. It has night sights and 15 rd mag. I put a Streamlight 800 lumen light on it and that's my "bump in the night" pistol. But if I'm carrying, it's usually one of my 1911's.

I would S&W M&P Performance Center CORE with a delta pro Red Dot. 100% reliable and accurate enough for SD. Not as heavy as a 1911 but they would be my next choice, .45 ruger or colt. 10mm RIA.

Mid would be RIA. 1911 commander in 9mm.

Small would be 9 mm or .45 shield

At heart I am a revolver guy but as of late I have picked up a few auto's. Always carried a S&W 3" 686 but always hated the bulk and weight of it so I got a couple of auto's I've been carrying, much more comfortable.
10mm's Glock and Springfield Ronin and just got this Kimber Custom II in 10mm and my two carry guns, a Para Slim Hawg and a Sig Sauer both in .45.

Mine is my Full size 1911, Colt Navy Model.
I carry a Glock 21 occaisionally. The Colt has all new internals
and was rebuilt by Wilson. I don't carry the Colt but I shoot it
at our Clubb. The G21 shoots great and I shoot it and carry it.

I have several depending o the situation. I love my Bobtail Dan Wesson 9mm, but not for appendix carry. I think the CZ PCR is tops when a Double action Decocker is needed, and last but not least my fully customized G19 is the cats meow and gets the nod when firepower trumps all.

At the moment these are my favorite. Although it does change quite often.

Remington 45 acp
Rock Island 45 acp
Rock Island 380 (Baby rock)

For a pocket carry I like the S&W Bodyguard 380.

I seems to me that the most popular handguns being purchased today are for concealed carry and are small to medium size guns. What I'm curious about is what is your favorite full size Semi-Auto. Now if you want to add the medium size guns and the smallish size guns in Semi-Auto, because that's the topic scope, you can add that. If you have more than one please list them. Who knows, someone may decide to give something else a try. I will list mine down the line.
So, Full Size
Medium Size
Smaller Size
EAA Witness, Max9, LCP.
