I was able to tag along on my DIL's Oryx hunt on the White Sands Missile Range last week. She and my son both put in for one of the 5 tags for current Iraqi/Afghanistan service members and Ash drew the tag. She got the job done using my dads Model 700 in 7 mag he ordered the first year they came out, 1962. Old school load of 150 grain Nosler Partitions and a good does of H4831 still gets the job done. This gun is now part of their family so it was not only a multi generational hunt but a multi generation gun as well. She killed the 36" dry cow on the side of a mountain covered in cactus and broken granite so it was a little bit of a chore getting the animal dressed, skinned and packed down to the truck but the sweat and sore muscles just added to the experience. The first picture is Ashly and my son Remington. He packed her gear, cheerleaded for her and made multiple trips down the mountain with packs full of meat or hide and head.
