I've had my old Savage 110 in 270 Winchester for over 3 decades - it would shoot merely OK with various factory ammo, but nothing close to MOA. I had tried various Remingtons, Winchester, Hornady, and some Federal, 130 and 140 grain, all with lackluster results. I debated selling the rifle numerous times thinking it was a lemon- though I reload for my pistols and some of my rifles I hadn't bothered with the old Savage. I figured if I couldn't find a factory load that worked well in it, the reloading development path could be long and fruitless one. I used other rifles for most of my hunting trips. On a lark two years ago, I picked up several boxes of Federal Fusion 150 grain that totally turned things around. This rifle LOVES that stuff! Now it was shooting MOA or better groups. The barrel even looks surprisingly clean after shooting a box or more of it. I can put those nickel-sized target stickers on paper at 50 yards and hit them 4/4 times, and nearly that well at 100 yards. Now, I want to hunt with this rifle again.

The ugly part, of course, is finding this ammo in stock. In late 2019, Federal had made the Fusion bullets available for reloaders, in theory, but I haven't found any of these in stock anywhere either. I still have a couple boxes of factory ammo, but I'd really like to get 500-1000 of these bullets and try to reproduce the magic - or at least come close to it at a better cost per shot.

Have any of you used Federal Fusion bullets, and where did you buy them? Have you had any luck trying to reproduce Fed Fusion ammo performance - especially in 270 Win? I'm hoping with H4381 or maybe IMR7828 I might get there.

At least I found load data info from Federal's website - all Alliant powders, though - I'm all out of RL-22 so I guess I better start shopping for some of that now, too.

Best advice I have is get on 'ammoseek' and see if any retailer has that particular ammo. Keep checking on a weekly/monthly basis. Chase all the options and get on the backorder list of any places that offers this option. Sooner or later, some factory ammo will show up.

Winchester 150 gr. power points are MOA or better in four different 270s. Also, the Sierra Game King and Nosler Partition 150 gr. bullets have been superb in those rifles.

You can buy the Fusions. Bullets or ammo directly from Federal. Recently I ordered some .280 and 30/06 Fusions(just bullets) directly from Federal. Shipped directly to me. No problem.
