I have a very handy 308 Hawkeye, that I bought when I was looking for a 358 tang safety RS carbine. It has a 20" barrel, with sights. It has a recoil lug cross bolt, walnut stock, and sort of, almost glossy barrel. It's like a 308 in the compact magnum configuration. When I bought it the seller listed it as an African, but I knew that was hokum. The model number is 37101. I'm curious what the correct name of this model is and how many were made. I'm not interested in selling it.
The little rifle shoots. Like all those inaccurate Rugers, it is only capable of shooting slightly less than inch, 5 shot 100 yard groups, with 150 grain hornady bullets and IMR4895, 3031 and 4064 powders, so far.
Thanks,
Bfly

It is the model shown in the second link which refers to the same model number as the OP does. Davidson's had a limited number of these available in Fall 2018 as they purchased a bunch of discontinued older rifles from Ruger's inventory clean out. It has the barrel band reminiscent of the African but was referred to as a RUGER COMPACT MAGNUM rifle…

It does look like the second one. I figured it was part of an odd lot of some sort. I've had quite a few of the RL's and RLS's over the years and I never felt like they had perfect balance for me. This one hits the nail on the head, again for me.

I have one of these (model 37101) that was purchased in 2010 when they first were offered. The box label identifies it as an RS.

I have one that looks like the second rifle without the barrel mounter sling swivel and is compact magnum in 308.

I have one of those rifles as well. Really fun little shooter in an easy to find/load caliber. I half heartedly looked for a second one, but no luck.

I think I will begin to refer to it as my Ruger Compact 308 Magnum. By changing the word order, i should increase my muzzle velocity by a couple hundred feet per second!

I've been looking for one of the Ruger compact magnums in 308 #37101. Is there anywhere besides gunbroker to search.

Thank you for the info. I gave them a call today and they said they did not have any Rugers 308 with walnut stocks. I am not sure I called the right place or not, he said they had ruger American synthetic stocks.
