Anyone know of a fiber optic front sight that is known to fit the SR1911? Shouldn't matter which caliber but mine's 10mm.

Yes, I know Ruger has an accessory category on their website which shows a fiber optic front but there were some comments from buyers who said they didn't fit or fitting required the attention of a gunsmith. Shouldn't need filing done by a smith, at most a good sight pusher. Thanks, Don

Dawson Precision has them, but the customer comments indicate that some fit easily and others require quite a bit of fitting. Wonder if Ruger has problems holding tolerances on the dovetails...

While Ruger uses a Novak dovetail for their sights, they didn't use a standard Novak front sight, they used a 1/2 Novak sight, with the front sight blade being flush with the dovetail cut, thus avoiding having to mill the flat on top of the slide that is back from the dovetail towards the rear. Because of this, a lot of front sights, especially Novak sights, require milling that flat to fit. Even though Ruger calls them Novak sights...they aren't true Novak sights.
