Do these pistols shoot the same ammo? And, am I correct in thinking that the LC is a steel frame and the EC is a polymer frame, and they are virtually the same pistol in specs?
Thanks,

No, I believe they are both polymer frame pistols but the EC9 is a more economically manufactured one, with the non adjustable sights made as part of the slide itself, as opposed to the drift adjustable, replaceable sights on the earlier LC9.

They both use the same standard 9mm ammunition.

When you say the same standard ammo, I have the LC and it is marked 9mm luger on the barrel---I thought that
there was 2 common sizes, the 9X18 or the 9mm Luger, and a different sized 9mm for different pistols.
I'd appreciate it if you could give me a quick tutorial on that, if you have time.
Thanks,
John

So, in summary, these all mean the same thing:

9mm Ammo
9×19 Ammo
9mm Luger Ammo
9mm Parabellum

9x18mm Makarov

Developed in the 1940's by the Soviet Union, the 9x18mm Marakov (also known as 9mm Marakov and 9mm PM) is essentially the Soviet version of the 9mm Luger.

of slightly different dimensions, the 9mm Marakov is not interchangeable with the 9mm Luger or 9mm NATO. The first difference is the casing length which, at 18.1 mm, is about a millimeter shorter. The most important difference, however, it the bullet diameter, which is roughly .1 mm larger. One tenth of a millimeter might not sound like much, but the larger diameter can cause the bullet to jam in barrels designed for 9mm Luger. Jams can be pretty serious if you don't catch them and can even lead to a barrel explosion.

From Wiki - "The 9×18mm Makarov is a Soviet pistol and submachine gun cartridge. During the latter half of the 20th century it was a standard military pistol cartridge of the Soviet Union and the Eastern Bloc, analogous to the 9×19mm Parabellum in NATO and Western military use."

9x19mm Parabellum ammo is the same as 9mm Luger ammo, just a different name

Then there is the 9x25mm - The 9×25mm Dillon is a pistol wildcat cartridge developed for use in USPSA/IPSC Open guns. The cartridge is made by necking down a 10mm Auto case to 9 mm.

Then there are these 9mm pistol cartridges:

NAME Bullet diameter

.380 ACP 9.02 (.355)

9×18mm Ultra 9.00 (.354)

9mm Glisenti 9.02 (.355)

9×19mm Parabellum (9mm Luger) 9.02 (.355)

.357 SIG 9.02 (.355)

9mm Browning Long 9.09 (.358)

9×21mm 9.02 (.355)

9×21mm Gyurza 9.05 (0.356)

9×23mm Largo 9.00 (.355)

9×23mm Steyr 9.02 (.355)

9mm Largo 9.02 (.355)

9×25mm Mauser 9.02 (.355)

9×25mm Dillon 9.02 (.355)

9mm Winchester Magnum 9.02 (.355)

9×25mm Super Auto G 9.03 (0.356)

.356 TSW 9.04 (.356)

.38 ACP (.38 Auto) 9.04 (.356)

.38 Super 9.04 (.356)

9×23mm Winchester 9.04 (.356)

.38/.45 Clerke 9.1 (.357)

9×18mm Makarov 9.25 (.364)

Info Overkill? :D :D

The three common 9mm's on the current market are .380 ACP (commonly marked as 9mm Corto/Kurz/Short/Browning Court/9x17mm on European guns and ammo), 9x19mm Luger/NATO, and 9x18mm Makarov (basically only found in Soviet block imports). On American-made guns, 9mm means 9x19mm and .380 ACP/Auto is consistently not marked as a 9mm.

Any other 9mm marked cartridge is going to be boutique or obsolete. Sure, .38 Super is technically a 9mm and has a nearly identical chamber to 9x23mm, but it'd only be marketed as such on something like a race gun.

Ron,
Thanks for the tutorial, it was exactly what I needed, the info I was able to find from a quick search before I posted clearly stated the LC9s used 9mm Luger, but info on the EC9s just said 9mm---thanks for clearing it up for me----I appreciate the time and effort you spent on compiling the list---I knew there were several types of 9mm, but you cleared it up for me.
Thanks to you other members too for your help and info

At least early LC9's are hammer fired. The EC9s is striker fired. Both take 9x19/9mmLuger ammo. Magazines are interchangeable.

If I'm not mistaken the EC9 has adjustable sights and the EC9s has fixed. I recently bought the latter.

All LC9s (LC9, LC9s & LC9s Pro) have fixed sights. The EC9 has fixed sights that are machined into the slide, the others have removable fixed sights.

It's a pretty good bet when ever you see 9mm it is for 9mm Luger Parabellum... unless it is some older exotic gun.... but there is one other common semi popular 9mm round: 357 Sig... it's just that the round is put in a necked down 10mm case with pretty much the same powder load as the 40 cal...

my LC380 had drift adjustable sight is hammered fired with the same size polymer frame as the LC9s and is marked 380Auto on the barrel

both have frame mounted safeties

I just peeked at the owners manual for my EC9s.
Its the same manual for the LC9s.
On the front cover it states the LC9s has adjustable sights. It repeats it on the nomenclature diagram.

They are adjustable in the sense that if you hit them with a hammer they will move. I have an original LC9 and a LC9s Pro. They both have the same sights. The front sights are fixed, the rear sight can be whacked side to side. As I said before the EC9 has the rear sight machined into the slide.
