I have shot both .308 and .310 bullets from Ranch 762x39. In mine, the 308's have been more accurate, but they were good Hornady bullets.

This is an older article, but states that Ruger now use 'nominal 0.311' grooved barrels versus older 0.308.
They shot 310 and 308 bullets and had best luck with a 308.

To know for sure in your rifle, you need to 'slug' the barrel.

The SAAMI Spec for 7.62x39 is 0.311 -0.002. That puts .308 barely out of spec on the small (safer) side.

Not sure on the Ranch Rifle, but I have one of the newer Mini-30's, and I have slugged the bore. It slugged out at .3105

From a very recent Realguns.com article

"There are at least two consumer versions of the 7.62×39. The Russian submitted version of the 7.62×39 exists as a CIP cartridge with a 7.92mm (0.311″) diameter projectile and 3550 BAR (51,476 PSI) Pmax pressure rating. The 7.62×39 SAAMI version has a 0.311″ +0.000″/-0.002″ bullet diameter spec and 45,000 PSI MAP. The Ruger Mini-Thirty's nominal groove diameter is 0.3105″ and bore diameter is 0.3080, The Mini Thirty is designed for use with SAAMI complaint ammunition."

It will however shoot both .308 and .311 bullets.
