Ruger's position on ammunition, from their website . . .

AMMUNITION (CARTRIDGES) NOTICE:
WE SPECIFICALLY DISCLAIM RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY DAMAGE
OR INJURY WHATSOEVER OCCURRING IN CONNECTION WITH,
OR AS THE RESULT OF, THE USE IN RUGER REVOLVERS OF
FAULTY OR NONSTANDARD OR "REMANUFACTURED" OR
HANDLOADED (RELOADED) AMMUNITION, OR OF
CARTRIDGES OTHER THAN THOSE FOR WHICH THE FIREARM
WAS ORIGINALLY CHAMBERED.

This applies to all Ruger single-actions, as well as all of their firearms in general. It is understood that standard commercial +P loads are acceptable. The use of so-called "Ruger only" handloads would not meet with Ruger's approval in spite of the common use thereof. It should also be noted that there are some after-market loads sold as "+P" that are not recognized as "standard" or "SAAMI -spec" ammo . . . ammo so advertised for the .45 Colt, for instance.

Your gun, your money, your life.

As long as +P is a SAAMI standard for the cartridge you are shooting. For example .38 Special +P . However .44 Mag, .357 Mag, .44 Special, and .45 Colt do NOT have a +P SAAMI specs.

FYI, the Old Model .45 Colt is the same frame and cylinder as the New Model.
