It was raining earlier this morning so I got back to the P95 optic plate project.
Although I dislike saying this because they do have some very good products, I can't recommend the EGW dovetail replacement plate for Rugers.
The dovetail is simply too tight (and I'm not the only one who discovered this according to some reviews). I was very careful about getting the plate started and even removed the finish from the bottom of the plate since the bottom surface was uneven and had gloppy finish anyway. About 1/3 of the way in, things got really tight and I decided to see what the problem might be. With the plate removed, I could easily see that the optic mount hole had been deformed. Not by the force of installation but because the dovetail fit is so tight it actually deformed the plate 'squishing' one of the threaded holes for the optic attachment screws. Another buyer mentioned this in his review but I thought maybe it was caused by hammering but now I see that might not have been the case.
Oh BTW, if you get too rambunctious in driving the plate back out (or the sight out when you began this project), almost certainly you'll send that little spring loaded plunger that's retained by the sight into outer space. It just so happens that an AR 15 pivot/takedown pin detent is the correct diameter and only needs shorten by 1/8" to use as a replacement.
