Anybody who bad-mouths the .38-55 has no idea what they're talking about. It's about on par with a .30-30 for a deer cartridge.... slower, but heavier. For 150 yards or less, it will do just fine.
I have a "Liberty" M77 in .30-06. Added a Leupold 2-7X32 scope and a carry strap with QD swivels. Strap stays in the pack until I'm dragging a deer out of the woods - then it goes on the rifle. Tried a Zeiss 3-9X40 scope..... had to put on taller rings for the scope to clear the barrel. The...
Thompson Center 2X scope for 14 or 16 inch Contender. Original T/C style - rail is on the scope, base mounts to barrel, scope slides into base, and screws through the cross-slots secure it. Might be collectible.... I dunno.
$100 shipped
For $700 ??? Especially considering it's not some "Brand X" scope, it's a steal.
I have a 96/44, and I'm willing to bet it's the same barrel - just a different receiver. With 240 grain Speer jacketed soft nose and I forget how much Li'l Gun, it's 2 to 2-1/2 inch groups at 100 yards... "minute...
If that one doesn't suit you, I'd recommend a Leupold 1-4X. I've had one on my 96/44 for a lot of years - it's been through rain, snow, fog, and subzero temps without a hiccup.
Ran a trapline as a kid - had a Case "Muskrat". Carried that knife through college and the Army. Some time after the service, it disappeared. Replaced it with a stockman whose brand I don't recall, but was never really happy with the quality of the blades. Some time in the mid-80s I got a...
You can't. DO NOT mess with the two front screws on the receiver. The .44 Carbine takes the two bases shown above.... the rear base mounts on the two rear screws on the receiver, the front base mounts on the two screws at the rear of the barrel.
Yup northeast Minnesota has big coyotes, alright.... REALLY big coyotes. My son's size 12 boot next to one of the prints - might even be big enough to be a wolf track. (sarcasm)
I've been hunting the same area in northeast Minnesota since 1959. This past season, the group saw fewer deer than we've ever seen.
Some trail camera pictures.... note the time stamps and they're all traveling the same direction. We figure a pack of 8.
