Contender, I value your advice, along with anyone else that gives me any of their time and experience. My background is mechanical engineering and installing/improving expensive machines, along with more basic cars and such. I have seen tremendous improvements in technology, including...
Friends, I appreciate every word of advice. I’ve heard a few things I have admit that I wouldn’t have considered! As far as the appearance, it arrived darker than the ads had indicated. Perhaps the Mfg company had some complaints and altered things??
As always, many people said what I should...
Arfmel, appreciate the thoughts. Hoping when your brain is seeing the afternoon sun that some 'brilliant thoughts' pop up!
I'm with you guys so far, can't think of any action that doesn't threaten the tube. I am (dimly) remembering a blueing pen
from years back applied like a magic marker...
I have a new Meprolight front sight coming for my Sp101. The finish is dull black and I have read of people who felt it was a weaker finish.
Is there a way to make it more durable, blacker, whatever prior to putting it on? Its a stainless gun so doesn't need to match, just wanting a finish that...
"In the Lord's caliber!" I like that!! Never seen that one before.
Remember watching a suspect running from the cops through a Chik-Fil-a and a dude opens up his truck door and slams the guy down.
He jumps out and yells, at the perp, "You don't do that in God's parking lot!"
Can I come and help look for lost guns? I promise I'll give you MOST of what I find....
I found $1200 when I cleaned out a closet while moving. It was cash I had folded up in the towels and forgotten about.
I lke this kind of memory loss!
Strictly my opinion but NOTHING looks as good on that frame as a massive unfluted cylinder. Beautiful lines & a classic look that never goes out of style and is hard to improve upon. Kinda like a '55 Chevy or a '32 Ford in the gun world. I'll get one like it some day. Glad yours is so tight.
I agree with the possibility of slight weight differences. We have seen that ourselves with lighter bullets and some powders. If those are found, or simply just imagined, it's not hard to simply break down the components and do a complete check of the powder charge and any other items.
One easy trick to remember is simply to weigh any 'suspect' reloads with a reasonably accurate digital scale. The light ones (missing powder) can be broken down and the components saved. Any heavy ones (double powder charge) should show up easily as well.
Knowing the liability issues, I have read that the manufacturers look for a strength rating around 40% higher than the normal demand placed by each caliber. They like to measure their strength ratings at the thinnest spots, not on an untouched cylinder blank. As you can guess, that will vary...
Hittman and Contender (as well as myself) will preach the gospel of the .41 to all who will listen. Handload them or just shoot factory loads and you will be surprised what they can do and how 'easy-shooting' they can be. For those who have been made gun-shy by some hard-bucking .44 Mags, this...
