Ruger P Series pistols. How good are/were they?

I may have already commented somewhere earlier in this thread, but FWIW, I have a P97 that I bought in the '90's that is more accurate than I am, and has never had a single failure to fire regardless of the ammunition used. I hardly ever shoot it anymore but it is a keeper as far as I am concerned.

    22lr carry for defense??

A 22 is still better than nothing, that is for sure. Some folks, including women who are uncomfortable with firearms, might carry a 22 but would not carry anything bigger, then they surely are safer with the 22. It might not be enough to stop the attacker, but likely is enough to make him decide...

    Ruger vs S&W Revolvers

If I recall, part of his argument was that the S&W are forged, and the Rugers are cast, and that the heavier metal of the Rugers is to make them similar in strength to the S&W. In any event, I own two S&W revolvers. One, a Model 19, 4 inch, nickel that I bought new in about 1986 remains what I...

    22/45 cleaning schedule

I think a lot of gun cleaning is done for the activity itself. I love the smell of Hoppe's, each and every time I clean a gun I think about my Dad when he cleaned his guns, and he has been gone almost 50 years. I don't shoot all that often, so cleaning is sometimes the only interaction I have...

    Squib

I don't reload, only use factory ammo. I have never had a squib in all my years of shooting, including 24 years in the U.S. Army. I don't recall ever having a center fire dud, but I can't be sure about that. 22LR duds are pretty common, but that is not the same as a squib.

"The Mighty Stopping Power of a 1911"

Who really needs a 45 when a 9 mm will blow the lungs right out of the body?

"The Mighty Stopping Power of a 1911"

There seems to be no shortage of folks on gun forums who actually believe that the 1911, firing 45 acp, is second only to a nuclear bomb in destructive power. As a handgun, it does do the job that it needs to do, so I have no problem with those that are in love with the 1911. I'm just not one...

CCW Safe, know of any case that they helped?

And if you do get charged, your membership is supposed to cover the cost of the lawyer that CCW Safe has provided. In effect it is legal insurance, and it is not, nor does it claim to be, liability insurance. We all know that it is not in our interest to talk to the police. If involved in a...

CCW Safe, know of any case that they helped?

Years ago I started carrying CCW Safe as a just-in-case I ever need qualified help after a self defense shooting, and so far I have not ever called them. In part I chose CCW Safe because of the low cost, and the discount for former military or law enforcement, and because I was more than...

    Squib

With every person that I have taught the basics of shooting I have warned about squibs and how to handle them. I always tell them if there is a misfire, wait 30 seconds and then clear the weapon from the chamber (not to stick a stick down the barrel!). But in my lifetime I have never actually...

    Concealed Carry

My point was that newbies are likely to be super careful as they are not yet comfortable having a gun on their person, whereas a police officer or someone who has carried for years might well become onchalant about it and get careless. I recall how much I thought about printing, or about raising...

    Concealed Carry

The fact that some police officers have had accidental or negligent discharges does not mean that the untrained are more likely to do so. Complacency is not uncommon with anyone who does anything frequently. The untrained individual may actually be more likely to follow safety rules carefully...

    Concealed Carry

I understand not wanting to shoot when it is not justified, but carrying a gun that needs to be drawn, safety flipped off, slide pulled back before it can be fired can easily result in you being stabbed or shot with that almost ready to fire gun in your hand. You might want to consider pocket...

    Concealed Carry

It seems odd to see this same question raised so many times over the years. Then I remind myself that we get new people joining the forum and I assume most don't go back into the dim past looking at old threads. I've always carried with one in the chamber, recognizing that the time I might have...
