My first 44 mag was a 7.5" SS Redhawk w/ the integral Ruger scope base on the barrel.
Still have it!
Added a Smith 629 Mountain Gun and finally a Super Redhawk 44 mag (9.5").
Added another SRH but in 480 Ruger with a 7.5" barrel.
If I had not discovered how flexible the 44 Mag cartridge is...
I had the One Ragged Hole sight (a peep sight) on my 9 1/2” 44 Mag SRH when I traded it off. The front sight was the Ruger gold bead painted black. I truly miss that sight.
The revolver I traded for is a SRH 7 1/2” in 480 Ruger and it would be great in a peep as well!

I had a gunsmith make custom partridge front sights for my Redhawk and Super Redhawk. That helps with the glare problem.
Later a neighbor gave me the smaller of his two One Ragged Hole rear sight inserts.
I installed it on my 9.5” SRH and then bought a Ruger front gold bead sight and...
Twenty two years ago I paid $395 for my SS RH in 44 Mag used. Three years later my used SS SRH followed me home for the same price.
I would have a hard time forking over 1200 for any version of RH even as great as they are.

If your eyes are good, there is not much better that a square rear notch and a flat top front partridge sight.
If you are getting longer in the tooth and your eyes are falling off the proverbial cliff, then you need something else.
I traded off my 9.5” SRH in 44 for a 480 SRH but the traded...
I had the smallest appeture from the One Ragged Hole set on my SRH 44 Mag and the Ruger gold bead painted black on the front end of it’s 9 1/2” barrel.
It was an awesome sight radius and effective combination to say the least. That was before my eyes fell off the log that is. That revolver...
3” 357 Mag. but since they are fixed sighted my favorite “Sp” is not a 101, but rather a blued Security Six 4”.
I would rather have a stainless but at the price of 250 how can I complain?

To the OP,
Getting a light weight bullet to shoot well in a standard twist factory sporter 6mm class rifle tells me that there is more accuracy in your rifle yet to be discovered.
I would say more break in procedure, ie cleaning (I like JB bore paste ). Also check how your barrel fit your...
I have never owned a 454 Cas. but I do own a 7.5” in 480 Ruger.
As a traditional revolver I feel the 480 is the better choice and particularily if you handload and taking up casting. Those who do not have a 480 fail to recognize it’s flexibility. While it is true that the 454 can digest 45...
I have about ten 5 gal. buckets of wheel weights to smelt and my casting pard brought me a 3400 pound lead weight off a junked out fork lift to smelt as well.
I bought a bunch of plumbing lead scraps 400# as well.
We figure to use powder coating to stretch out the harder WW lead and throw as...
My brother just bought his first 44 Mag. For his purposes he selected the Smith model 69 combat. This is their SS five shot built on the L frame, Clinton zit, MIM parts and the two piece barrel and all that.
He did not have the time to find an older Smith and there are no five shot models...
An elderly lady once killed a black bear from her porch with a 22 lr in a revolver. Therefore a 22 lr in a revolver is an adequate defense against bears.
Not!
I load my 480 with a published start load with the cowboy powder and it’s boring.
By switching powders and charges, I can fashion any...
