Can You Handle The .44 Magnum?

A heavier frame, full-size (non-compact) grip and longer barrel (like 6") all contribute to making the .44 mag a lot more civilized/comfy to shoot. Same with .357 mag. I once knew a couple knuckle-draggers (no longer do) who thought it was funny to take a wife or girlfriend shooting for the...

Not sure of the best place to put this, but, Sportsman’s Warehouse has a good sale on handguns

I find that SW stores (2 of them in the greater Portland area) are pretty regular with sales. The key IMHO is to not be impatient. Whatever you've been looking for will probably rotate around into a sale price at some point in a month or so. And speaking of impatience, definitely take something...

    How do you train

For semi-auto pistols/rifles, this works for me. YMMV. As the round discharges, keep the trigger depressed. Don't let your finger bounce off the trigger. Hold it "buried" like that for a moment while you refocus on the target and front sight. During that half-second, slowly/gently start to ease...

    How do you train

Last century in the military. I made up the drill off-duty and use it myself as a refresher.

    skunk trapping

Skunks are not uncommon on my suburban hillside with woods nearby. Some summer eves there's a quick whiff of skunkiness on the breeze. Went to close the patio slider last year and noticed my new neighbors out on their deck, blissfully unaware. Might've had something to do with their bong, lol.

    How do you train

One of my favorite pistol drills for overcoming flinch is to have someone load the cylinder of a .357mag 6-shooter with a random mix of magnum rounds, .38spl and spent brass. Spin it, close it and hand it to the trainee. Repeat as needed in single- and double-action. One never knows what the...

Looking for a Red Dot Scope with 1" Tube (not 30mm)

Thought of that, and I'm sure I would like it, but that's more than I paid for the rifle, lol! Another possibility is to buy a pair of Ruger 30mm rings to fit a couple of 30mm red dot optics I have lying around. Kicking myself for trading away a Mini 30 several years with a nice 1" Millett tube...

Looking for a Red Dot Scope with 1" Tube (not 30mm)

Thanks! I think I was a frequent flyer here a few years ago and really liked the forum. Lost track of my old info, though, so here I am all shiny and new!

Looking for a Red Dot Scope with 1" Tube (not 30mm)

This feels a bit like hunting for a unicorn. My rifle is a Mini 14 with 1" ranch rings. Might've been useful at one time when Millett and Simmons still made inexpensive red dot scopes with 1" tubes, but now it looks as if they are discontinued and everything I see online is 30mm diameter. I...
