    Mini30 vs 44 Magnum Carbine

I own both the Mini-30 and the .44 Deerfield. For hunting I would keep the Deerfield; for target shooting the Mini-30. I use the Deerfield with its factory peep and the Mini-30 is a Series 189 with the carbine peep installed. Also, Ruger no longer makes a .44 carbine, so future collectibility...

    Hawkeye RSI 308 with optics

I originally owned a 77 Mark II in .250 Savage in the 1990s; ostensibly it was the wife's deer rifle. It handled and shot so well that when she quit hunting I sold it and bought this RSI in .308 in 2004. This rifle has never been touched in any way except for an initial cleaning when it came out...

    Optical sight recommendation for Mini-14

I have used the Leupold VX-I, 1-4x shotgun scope on my Ruger Mini-30 and 14 for several years now. I also have one on my Browning BAR Lightweight Stalker in .308. The Mini-14 and the BAR were purchased and have been set up as anti-terrorist rifles. I chose the VX-I for its compactness...

    Mini-30 rear peep sight question.

OJC, The older flip up (as on the 189 Series) and the newer "military" look alike peep rear sights (as on the 580 series) are not interchangeable. My Series 189 wears a carbine aperture from Accuracy Systems; see below, scroll down about 2/3 of presentation tile...

THE 338 WINCHESTER MAGNUM - AN AMERICAN CLASSIC

I've owned two rifles chambered for the .338 Winchester Magnum over a 40 year period. I currently have a Ruger 77 Sporter in this caliber. I believe this is an inherently accurate cartridge; as this rifle and the earlier (Win Model 70 1964 variant) one were both capable of just around 1 MOA when...

    Mini 14 accuracy

The weather was perfect; about 40 degrees F, no wind and clear but overcast. The rifle was cleaned and lubricated last night. The ammo was Wolf, 62 grain HP, steel case. The inital shot at 25 yards indicated the rifle was low and seemingly centered. Then it was off to 200 yards. I sight in and...

Anyone using a NECG peep sight?

I use NECG aperture sights on a Ruger 77 International and a Ruger 77 Sporter. These provide a good sight picture and they utilize the Ruger front sight with no modification.
