    what am i missing?

Joe S., I own 5 S&W 44 Specials and 1 Ruger 5 1/2" new-production Flattop. A 240 grain cast SWC and stout charges of various powders provide excellent downrange accuracy and enable me to hunt with all but the two pre-WWII S&Ws (I refuse to punish'em). The ABSOLUTE most accurate target load...

    44 Carbine Questions

The fit of the action to the stock on my carbine is as tight as the bark on the proverbial beech.

    FS: 45 Colt Brass

I will guarantee there has been a mix-up of some sort. Yankee2500 is as good as gold. I've ordered brass from him many times, with nary a problem.

    WTS: 45acp & 380auto Brass

Yankee2500, bringing this to the top so a buddy of mine, Big Tim, can easily find it.....Thanks, Rich

Just bought a vaquero 45-- help

IMO, to mount any foreign object on a Colt SAA, a Ruger Vaquero, an 1894 Winchester carbine, or a Black Widow bow is to thumb-smudge a mustache on the Mona Lisa.

    Cut the barrel or not??

I remember the tale about Yogi Berra waddling to the plate and some aesthetically-anal catcher or other telling him that he had the trademark on his Louisville Slugger turned the wrong way. Yogi responded that he came to the plate to hit, not read. Catch my drift?

    Ruger .44 Carbine

Dunno which is "given up" to be the best, but mine is a 102- series, made about 1975 if I'm readin the numbers correctly. It seems well-made, functions great, and, in limited testing, has proven itself capable of 3" 3-shot groups from sandbags at 70 yards. Mine is the RS model (receiver-mounted...

factory peep sight on 44 Carbine?

Mine has no slot on the barrel for a rear sight. As to model, on the left of the receiver it simply says "RUGER CARBINE". Below that are the words "44 MAGNUM CAL." Just forward of that is the serial number (102-120XX). The receiver sight is fitted into a vertical slot on the side of the upper...

factory peep sight on 44 Carbine?

Manual max charge of IMR 4227/240 grain XTP HP books along at an average of 1670 fps out of my carbine with an extreme spread of 27 fps. For comparison, out of my 2.5" S&W 629 the avg. velocity was 1167 with an extreme spread of 29 fps with the same load......50 yard grouping from the carbine...

factory peep sight on 44 Carbine?

Thanks sigp220.45 and SteelShooter. I've only had the chance to shoot mine with some 2400/240 gr. XTP loads. Had a shaky rest and had to hurry but its accuracy is certainly minute-of-poker card at 35 yards and its function seems flawless.......Plan to try 4227 and H 110 loads with the same...

    Ruger No.1 in 270 win

The rifle I consider the most accurate "deer caliber-rifle" I ever owned was a Ruger #1 A chambered in 270 Win. This was in the late '70s. Early on, it preferred a 150 gr bullet. As the bore seasoned, 130 became its favored bullet weight. Still have some groups from that #1 on the wall in my...

factory peep sight on 44 Carbine?

The serial number on the left side of its receiver says my new-to-me Ruger 44 Magnum carbine had a d.o.b. of 1975. Its rear sight is a peep that looks to me to have been factory-installed. In looking around this forum and other internet sites, most of these Rugers appear to have come from the...

Blackhawk 45 Colt/45 ACP conversion question

I shot the BP loads they termed "wart-hawg" when I bought 1000 45 Specs, so had no CAS-need for shorter cases. My intent was to have cases on hand with the correct wall thickness to seat 45 cast bullets with greatly reduced powder capacity for use in older revolvers I might pick up (already had...

SBH: Look up and ask to be dismissed

As the saying goes "A picture is better than a thousand words" As with most things, there are exceptions......I enjoy Gibson's manner of expressing himself so much, pictures seem "old hat" in comparison.
