.357 Vaquero all the way:)
If it's purely for range fun, you can't beat a fixed sight single action, if for nothing else than cool factor.
If you can get away from .357 as a requirement I'd go with a .45 ACP-LC convertible 5.5" Vaquero, I have one and it's a blast to shoot .45 ACP through a...
My blued .45 ACP Birdshead arrived with a bent front sight blade and rust damage on the butt.......
I was wondering why it was hitting to the left the first time out......then saw the blade was bent to the right.....I have yet to attempt to knock it straight.
I was planning to have it hard...
Did these guns receive a little better fit and finish, to ensure they live up to the name stamped on them:)
It wouldn't be cool to have a "Police Marksmen's Association" Security Six that wasn't a tack driver
Are you sure it was a 6" and not one of the Davidson's 4" .38 adjustable sight models?
I am 99.9% sure no 6" GP100 chambered for .38 Special was ever made, if it was in fact a 6" RUN don't walk back there and buy it.......because it's the first one ever spotted.

I just won an NY-1 S&W 64 on GunBroker, I seem to accidently by starting an NYPD collection:)
I also have a P89 DAO that was an unfired over run for the NYPD.
I didn't pay a "premium" for any, I got my GPNY from a guy selling his guns to fund his daughters wedding, I don't think I paid more...
I have one, a 4" that has been carried a lot:)
These were an approved sidearm for new NYPD recruits at one time, I don't know exact years but I believe 1988-1992, they were authorized at the same time as the 64-5 NY-1's.
It seems S&W was the more dominant choice so not many Rugers were...
The only thing I would change about my 4" Redhawk is the lack of the replaceable plunger front sight. The red insert pinned on sight looks like an afterthought.
