Manual safety on semi auto's or not?

We have a LC9 with a manual safety. I consider it a valuable feature. One of the side benefits is the safety locks the slide in battery while holstering, unholstering, and helps prevent any debris getting in the action.

Happened into our first Ruger Number 1

I got 125 rounds at a local gun show for a good price. I then found an online vendor accepting orders for Winchester brass. Don't know when it may be delivered but I ordered 200 cases there as well.

Happened into our first Ruger Number 1

I always liked single shot rifles but through the years with Ruger #1s it was either not the right gun or not the right time. Now we got a chance to get one in 218 Bee. It did not look like it ever had rings on it and was still in the box. However over the years the rings got separated so that...

Anyone still carry an LC9 or an EC9S?

I have a LC9 that has been my primary carry gun for years. Right sized for carry, revolver like trigger pull, and uses the 9mm round so nothing not to like about it. The trigger is very service like and not like any target trigger so it works well for its intended role.

    9mm Blackhawk convertibles.....

Similar story with me. I started loading in the late 60s. I then got into some competition shooting, add to that shooting wildcats, and even buying factory guns that I don't think any factory ammo was ever made for. You get better performance from your equipment with custom loaded ammo in...

    9mm Blackhawk convertibles.....

We have a 38-357/9mm convertible. The 9mm shoots very well with some loads but not all. That behavior is consistent with about every 9mm I ever tested. We have a 952 Smith that shoots test groups @ 50 yards around 2.5" or less but other 9mm ammo is in the 5-6" range with the same gun. The...

Do you know how to shoot? Sure, it’s easy!

I have been a NRA LE instructor since 1987. I also started shooting in formal matches as a kid in the 1960s and have been doing that off and on up until about 2 years ago. I keep things simple. You teach: Safety, Use of Force (as it applies), then Fundamentals (sight alignment, trigger control...

Inferior firearms vs function and reliability

RIA pistols are made in the Philippines and are excellent quality. They are bargains for what you pay and what you get.

    GP100 - 327 Federal Mag

We have a GP100 in 327. It has done well with heavy bullets. These are all gas check bullets we shoot: 113, 117, 120, and 132. Just to try it, I shot a few 150 FP cast bullets but you are getting almost too long at that point for the cylinder. If I had to limit it to one heavy bullet it would be...

*UPDATE* Ruger Stainless Super Blackhawk 10.5

You beat me to it with the silver hornpipe. They were made to fit the silhouette rules were popular at the matches. Good competition gun for the money.

    .38 Super Out of a .357 Magnum/.9 MM Blackhawk Convertible - Redux

As others have mentioned there is little to gain with a 38 Super vs 38/357 in either cost or performance. We do have a 1911 with setups for 9mm and 38 Super that works very well. The barrels each have a fitted bushing, we do go 1 lb heavier on the spring with the 38 Super and use different...

    Group sizes at 100 yards

Revolvers that can shoot 2" groups at 100 yards are not common but some can. It takes a lot of load development as well because I never seen any off the shelf ammo deliver that kind of performance. Even the number of handguns from a mechanical rest that can shoot 2" or less at 50 yards are rare...

    Ruger GP100 in 327

As others have said, very accurate and fun to shoot. We have the GP100 and a Blackhawk in 327. I was trying heavier bullets and found a 132 grain that shot well. I left one get away from me or would have had a nice group with the GP.

    GP100 in .41 Mg.?

We have a 41 mag Redhawk, 5.5" barrel, that is favorite and a keeper. It is a strong revolver that is comfortable to shoot. A favorite load is a 210 SWC at about 1079 fps that shoots lights out @ 25 yards. The picture to the left is the 41 and a typical 25 yard target. We have a 210 XTP and a...

Inferior firearms vs function and reliability

Most of the 1911s I had were good. Strangely the worst one was a Colt 1980s series Gold Cup that I bought new. No reflection on Colt but that just seemed to be a "built on Monday" gun.
