I am planning on something similar. Several years ago I bought a new takeoff barrel in .260 from a 77 MkII. Later I ran across sights from a 77 7mm Rem. ST. I occasionally look for a decent tang safety 77 with a butchered barrel that could be bought cheap enough to make the project somewhat...
I would bet that the new .277 caliber round (if it comes to fruition) will not be any form of the 6.8 SPC. Look at Sig's proposed .277 caliber round. That's the direction things are heading.
I once had a 257 Roberts 77RL. Mk.II. I did not have a problem with the accuracy but the balance was awful. The standard rifle with the heavier 22" barrel balances better I find it carries better and holds steadier under field conditions.
Had a Smith 6" Model 53 22 Jet with a Bushnell Phantom scope. The mount was spring steel sheet metal that snapped around the top strap and the mount on the scope clamped to two ears in the spring steel and tightened it all up. The cylinder had plenty of clearance. The high pitched sound of that...
Got it yesterday and was surprised to see an image of an RS with the super rare front sight hood. Also notice ser. no. 20 that was the test rifle did not have the bolt guide and the forward part of the bolt was unpolished. VERY few made without the bolt guide.
I had fun a couple of days ago with my 4 5/8 stainless .44 Special. We went to the range to sight in my friend's 270 and while walking to the hundred yard targets picked up a couple of large pieces of clay targets and put them on the berm behind the target stand. Rested, I broke the first piece...
I would not worry about it. Think of it this way, the cases are each derived from the 7X57. No difference there. the bullets are 0.014" different in diameter and there is 0.0457 ounce difference in the most common hunting weight bullets. The 257has a SAAMI pressure of 54000 PSI (58000 for the +P...
Ruger has used their own in-house hammer forged barrels I think since the Mk IIs came out. These barrel are good shooters like the Douglas barrels that came on the earliest Model 77s. Beginning about '73 they had Wilson barrels. That's when Ruger got the black eye.
All Rugers are sold through distributors and dealers. How is this rifle any less a genuine Ruger than any other distributor exclusive? Is it the fact it is made with the original style bolt handle or because only 77 will be made? Only twelve 25/06 Express rifles were made. Are they not Rugers? I...
