    Your favorite combat revolver

I have the same revolver albeit with a 2 1/2" barrel, it's definitely my favorite SD revolver, the 7th round gives me some extra feeling of security, that is probably mostly in my head. With the Double Tap 158gr 357 mag ammo at 1300 fps with little flash or blast even from the short barrel it...

Wanting to send my Redhawk off to Hamilton Bowen.

With everyone salivating over these great looking Rehawks, it raises the question why don't Ruger build a Redhawk with that style of barrel. I'm not expecting to get the whole custom look and finish, but they could certainly breath some new life into the old Redhawk.

    Anybody ever buy from OpticsPlanet?

I bought a cheap BSA scope for my .22 from them a year or so ago, they were great really fast shipping too.

    Shoulder Rig/Holster for 4" Redhawk?

Thanks guys for the ideas. The original Dirty Harry rig looks nice but the costs a bit too steep for me just now. The Galco looks nice for less money. Any other ideas, anyone?

    Shoulder Rig/Holster for 4" Redhawk?

Does anyone know or have experience of a shoulder holster for a 4" Redhawk? I 'm looking for the type you would wear under a jacket in the urban environment rather than a field rig. Something like you see in the older Police/Detective Movies/TV is what I have in mind. Any info would be greatly...

    Wanted: Ruger .22LR cylinder

I don't know where to point you for a 22LR cylinder or what's involved in getting it set up for your gun, but I do know not to fire LR in the magnum cylinder under any circumstances. I heard of someone doing it by mistake and the difference in cylinder dimensions caused the cases to split when fired

D'oh!, why'd I go back to the gun store tonight....

The main factor for recoil, for the same ammo, is going to be the weight of the handgun. Although recoil energy is used to cycle the action on a semi auto, your hands still have to provide the resistance for this to be accomplished so the recoil energy is virtually the same, it's just spread...

Impact Power > LCR vs. SP-101

I've only fired them in a 2" barrel Taurus 605ss and a 2 1/2" Smith 686. So I can't vouch for the LCR but I believe the general trends will be similar. Muzzle flash and blast was significantly less than typical ammo in general that isn't optimised for short barrel. At the end of the day what I...

Impact Power > LCR vs. SP-101

These two from double tap work well in a short barrel if you look at the velocities from the 1.875" Smith. Speer also have short barrel ammo. http://www.doubletapammo.com/php/catalo ... cts_id=215 http://www.doubletapammo.com/php/catalo ... cts_id=338

Impact Power > LCR vs. SP-101

These links give some good comparisons regarding barrel length. In short barrels specific short barrel ammo can make a big difference. Double tap has some good offerings although they seem to have discontinued my favorite 357 mag load a 158 gr for short barrels...

    Dumb Q? .45LC vs. .45GAP

"45 GAP is Gaston Glock's vanity cartridge" It always seemed to be just that, serving no purpose other than making the grip frame of the gun fractionally smaller than if chambered in 45 acp. I'm sure there will be those that disagree, and I know I feel that all the cartridges we need were...

    Opinion on Redhawk Stainless 4"

The trigger pull on my 4" is excellent particularly the double action. This seems a common experience with the 4" Redhawks I've even read a couple magazine tests attesting to this. I read Jeff Quinn's Gunblast write up before I bought mine and would agree with what he wrote having owned one for...

45 Colt Redhawk vs 454 Alaskan

The Gunblast test for 4" 45 Redhawk and 454 Alaskan will give you something to chew over. From memory the extra barrel length of the Redhawk gave very similar performance to 454 Casull with the short Alaskan barrel. I guess it's hard to use all that powder in the short barrel. Any way you can...
